As a bloke why would I even want to got to see this movie?. It's about Barbie. It's a 100% girl thing..... It's like romcoms I avoid them like the plague.... If there are issues with the film, surely that's for it's target audience to decide?
Honestly mate. It’s not just a girls film and It’s target audience is not what you think. It’s strictly for adults imo. I was blown away at how it actually is

I never played with barbie lol or ever watched one of those animated films I went purely for Margot, gosling and greta. Knowing she directed it and her and her husband wrote it I knew there had to be something special it in and it absolutely delivered on all levels. Some of the weirdest levels I’ve seen lol

@Flloydo I've been away from the forum for 8 months - apart from a couple of times where I was asked if I could help open a GB on time and another to announce winners for a giveaway - and only started visiting again for the past 10 days or so, so I'm not sure which posts you're referring to re: ToC or others etc... but I can say that no mod would ever ban someone from the forum simply for saying they don't like this or that. There must have been something else.
Fair enough.
I know what muppets are but consider that not all the members are from UK and that there are certain words that may seem inoffensive to you but can be taken another way by someone from a different culture and so on. Just mentioning that as an example since you brought it up.
Also fair enough. I just love Kermit. My party trick is I can sing any song I know like him in his voice.
As for seeing eye to eye, I'm taller so that might explain that. :p
I like to think I’m taller than Ben Shapiro! But I’ve never left my house so I don’t own a tape measure!
Joking aside, feel free to PM regarding all the above.

However this guy can say all this sh!t about women and cultures and politics and zero happens.
What shite have I said about women, or 'cultures'? Name one?
That they dress pretty and like to receive compliments?
Of course there's a way to 'parlay' those compliments, and not all of them are nice and welcome, but even a 'builder', as I think you said - I didn't read through everything you posted, it's a lot - whistling at a passing by woman will be fondly remembered by her, if not right away, then later, when such attention is gone with age.

You accused me of hating women, that's such bullshit, I love women, I've been growing up with them, my older sister, who's gay BTW, our mostly female friends always around. If anything, I don't know 'guy behavior', I didn't go around drinking beers 'with guys' and kicking rocks, men's crude jokes disgust me.
I've lived in muslim, latino, asian, and western cultures for years each, and know every kind of behavior towards women.
I'm a feminist, if that's an appropriate term for a guy.
I prefer to listen to female singers, and my favorite characters in films and TV series are always female ones, like Ripley from my childhood, up to most recent Wendy from Billions.
I've wanted Angelina Jolie to be 'World's president', not just of one country, but all of them, etc.
I think women rule the world either way, and everything everyone does is for or because of them. And I certainly believe what the Center of the World is (see corresponding 2001 Wayne Wang film :D).

It don’t always work like that pal. Some may like it. But I’m not just referring to whistling. I’ve heard some say horrible disgusting things to all kinds of girls and ladies all shapes and sizes and ages. Underage girls. The worst was my mum when I was with her. It was disgusting what they said. But I don’t and I shouldn’t need to explain this to you

Well then I honestly apologise. However you seriously don’t come off like this on this forum. Not saying you constantly have to back up your claims but not one single person on this forum would get that read from you. If what you say is true then fair enough, I hold my hands up and say I’m sorry. But as I state its never come across this way.

Let’s just drop it now. Both sides. We can wither ignore each other or live in harmony on this site. I don’t mind

Fair enough. Certain films are just not my cup of Earl Grey.....

You're missing out on so many good films, including this one :(

I've seen both parts of Barbenheimer since Friday and it's Barbie that's the one I want to see again ASAP. I'd even go in my own to see it again (went with my daughter Friday night)

It's SUBLIME ;)
my problem is for want of a better word I get "suckered" into seeing films and 9 times out of 10 they turn out to be a pile of ****... Examples for me "Hurt Locker", "12 years a Slave", "Slumdog millionaire" , "English Patient" to name a few and i go 'Well that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back". It's rare I go to the cinema now or even bother with modern films..... I think the last film I actually enjoyed I thought was great was "The Invisible Man" 2020. Was surprised to get an intelligent film about an unusual subject...... Could be just an age thing. I've been going to the cinema for 50 years and I'm finding less and less to enjoy. Give me Panic in the Streets any day.....

Liked it.

Expected a vapid movie, but it was actually quite engaging.

Margot Robbie's enthusiasm for the movie has been almost contagious, and she is fantastic in this.

As if I needed any more proof the world is stupid, making such a mediocre nothing movie become a hit. :meh:
It's not controversial, it's not offensive, or political, as some made it out to be. It's not fun or funny, smart or 'allegorical' either. It's not really for grown-ups, and it's not a musical. It's nothing, maybe 10-year olds could enjoy it. It did nothing for me. Couldn't even put the original Aqua song in its credits, instead it had some butchered version by that horrible creature said to be a singer, going by the sequence of sounds represented by letters "Nicki Minaj"... :vomit:

Only Margot Robbie looks perfect, and they got an electric Hummer in there. That's all.

I was actually thoroughly entertained by this. Wasn't expecting to be. It was fun, funny, light-hearted and it had as much depth as you wanted or were willing to take from it.
An unexpected hit can only be good for cinema.
I just hope they don't rinse the feckin thing until its got no life left to give.
Which will probably happen sadly.
Tut Tut. 10 movies later...yawn.

And Ryan Gosling stole the whole shebang - which I find doubly ironic given that Barbie should have been the character with the most scene stealing moments, but I guess that's the point; complexity was not Ken's forte. That left Barbie as the more complex character - as it should be.

A solid 7.5 outta 10

But, goodness me was that beach battle laughs man

I forgot this isn't a forum thread, but a Cult of Barbie Appreciation consortium, and in proud 'leading party' tradition all other opinions are frowned upon. :meh:
I don’t care whether you liked or disliked Barbie, but come on, man; reread your post again: that’s not a “review” or “opinion” of any sort of substance, it’s a rant screaming for attention.

Actually it's a disappointment, I was truly surprised the movie around which there was so much 'controversy', was so bland and 'empty', it had nothing, none of those things people mentioned, good or bad. Except for the caricature 'theatrically' exaggerated butt slap on the Venice beach walkway. I was prepared to like or hate it, but nothing happened, it was pretty simple and forgetful.
I guess it's OK a movie gets people into theaters, I just didn't understand why.
For example, Avatar craze ten years ago was at least understandable, it's also a simple, highly derivative movie, as been said a million times, but at least I got why many liked it.
Here I don't. o_O

Lol why do you have to make everything political? It was a joke gif, but the fact you took it so seriously makes it clear to my why you didn't enjoy Barbie. Lighten up, life's much more fun that way :)

That's my only concern too, that they'll now rinse it for everything it's worth and turn it into a franchise, taking away what made it special in the first place. I'm sure we can at least expect a sequel at some point... hopefully they'll prove us wrong and give it as much love and dedication as the first.
