Well, it's certainly taken me a while to source a copy here in the UK at a reasonable price. Win. I finally managed to secure this prized Steel...for a Steal...well, for a pretty great price, happily under £30. That's a win in my book. I'm cheap. I've always said it!
My favourite Director. And. One of his best films. Some critics favourite, some not. Me...i think it probably ranks in Kurosawa's top 5 and is a solid number 4 on my list.
Most certainly though, this is one of the more attractive Steels out there. Best Buy hit the floor running with this one. They can produce some blinders when they want to and at kick ass prices as well. I do wish we had a similar company in the UK who could show the same creativity at these original RRP price points. Maybe it's Lionsgate? I'm still waiting for them to release the US "Warrior" Steelbook over here in the UK. They have the rights...
Now, the Steelbook itself, shamefully I must admit, it could be a touch more vivid in hand than it is, lacking such in a little saturation, in normal light, but under a glint of sunshine it's a beauty.
This film speaks for itself. I luckily grew up on Akira Kurosawa from a fairly young age but for those newcomers, if you're willing to indulge the space that he allows, in a language that's not your own, then a world of artistic nuence, cinematic assertiveness and classical storytelling will guide you to a host of filmic masterpieces.
