I really regret the day I decided to buy these Tarantino steelbooks because Lionsgate CS has been a nightmare. Both Jackie Brown and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 came with manufacturing damage. KB has a big dent on the back, and Jackie Brown is riddled with paint chips. After two weeks of runaround, today they finally messaged me that my “issue is still under review.” I sent them this picture (and a several others), which I think seem pretty obvious that this is a manufacturing issue.

My whole situation has just become headache. At this point I don’t even know if it’s worth it to send an annoyed reply asking for more specifics about what’s happening. It seems like a waste of time. I did pay with a debit card, so worst comes to worst I can always submit a chargeback and hope for the best.

I’ve always recorded myself opening sealed packages when I buy stuff on eBay. I’m going to start doing that for these types of purchases, as well, to protect myself in these situations. That way, even if I have to file a chargeback, I can submit the video as evidence.

Update: Added a pic of the Kill Bill dent, too.

That’s unacceptable. You don’t get to charge $40 for a movie that is selling in stores for, at most, $30, and then say that damage doesn’t matter. Even at 35 that’d be unacceptable damage.

Glad I didn’t get these, even though I really love Kill Bill 2. Yeah, I said it. KB2 > than KB1 (even though I like them both).

They sent me an e-mail today that they will replace the cases (not PET slips, discs, etc). I told them that's perfectly fine since my only issue was the condition of the cases. I'm thinking that they won't be sealed, or anything, so hopefully they protect them individually with bubble wrap to prevent them from scuffing against each other.

At least it resolved well for me - assuming I get undamaged replacements - but I can't really say that I have any desire to buy more steelbooks from them in the future. TBH, I bought these because I figured that I would sell my Nova slipbox Kill Bill editions and Kimchidvd Jaackie Brown steelbook for a bit more than I paid to bring down the total cost.

After 3 weeks of runaround, LL finally agreed to send me replacement cases (no slips, disc, etc., just the cases) for Kill Bill V.2 and Jackie Brown. They arrived today from CA unsealed, which I figured would be the case, so no big deal, with one piece of bubble wrap between them, and were stuffed into a plastic envelope.

For both of my original steelbooks, the front cases and spines are fine, but I needed to replace the back cases.

KBV2: Front of the replacement case is covered in scratches and scuffs, the spine is attached to the case on such an angle that it's almost coming off it, and the back has two small dents. I think that I can fix the dents, although one slightly marked the finish. Whatever, I'll take it.

JB: This one's a gem. The front has a huge dent and a resulting curvature to its shape. Luckily the back case has no visible denting or damage. However, it's also slightly curved and there is some annoying scuffing. But when I swapped it onto my original steelbook it did at least close. At this point, no dents = good enough.

Part of me wants to make a point by complaining again to LL. But it won't serve any purpose, so I'm done with it and definitely never buying anything else from them.

Dude that's shocking. Don't think they'll be distributing their own steels long, especially if your stories anything to go by. I feel your frustration man.

If they ever pull out the UK market, this story alone was enough to put me off any potential direct order/group buy from Lionsgate US.
