Bram Stoker's widow sued over the original's similarity to Dracula, and all copies were ordered to be destroyed.
But thankfully they weren't all destroyed, hence the quite excellent Eurika masters of cinema remastered blu-ray.
The commentary by David Kalat on that release goes into great detail about it. It's one of the best commentary tracks ever.
The original is one of my favourite films, and I (unusually) preordered this as soon as I saw it was available. Glad I did now. As I'm not one who's against remakes, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Not bad, but I've gotta be honest, I prefer the initial mockup. That screams streaky bacon if universal opt not to gloss it.
It does, but the German's often put that on listings. That's a full universal mockup. I can't see them doing that for it to be a tbc.
It says "temporary artwork" only because the final German J-card is still missing in the artwork.
I could see the initial mockup for a Collector's edition next year... I "could see" as there won't be anymore as Bob told us...
