Was wondering what all the comments regarding the gun were about until I looked again and spotted it

The revolver at the deers head is a metaphor of the story and how people are changed by the trauma of war. This is a foreshadowing of the Russian roulette scene towards the end of the movie. It’s the same for all soldiers having to face the question of can you actually take another mans life or indeed in this case the life of a magnificent animal. Michael couldn’t take the shot after what he had experienced in war but Nick after going insane needed the risk of the deadly game. Their characteristics got reversed. The deer on the art is Nick at the end of the movie.

Metaphor or not it’s an awful translation to art. It’s just laughable. Like something Chris Morris would create on a Brass Eye episode. Poor deer

I think the problem here is that they have tried to match the original poster art on the back of the steelbook and used similar ultra high contrast black and white. They’ve left themselves no scope for creativity for the sake of continuity. Whoever designed this understood the film and its “all life is precious “ message but probably had no free rein. They probably should have just gone with the amaray slip design and spot glossed the red parts.
