Animated and the creative director is Japanese from an anime background. It's got that early 2000s anime style, which I guess was the point. An an homage to the years that the OG films were made perhaps.
It's not getting the best of reviews.
But hey, the proof is in the watching. I'm not going to rush to see it. It'll be on streaming very soon I'm sure. This kind of anime film doesn't do well in the cinema in my experience. Even with the Lord of the Rings name. It'll help it though.

Big time fan of PJ's middle-earth films! It hurts me to see this movie doing so badly in theatres

I know. I get it. Support the movie, especially for fans but if it reviews badly, I'm going to be waiting for streaming. Life's too busy and money is too tight. Going to Cinema is a luxury for the family now sadly.
Ah ok. I have since seen it’s getting bad reviews tho. Shame, steelbook is stunning. I’ll still give it a go at some point. I’ll always back animated films
Reviews are all over the place with this but as a huge fan of LOTR I'm looking forward to seeing it and it's a decent looking steelbook so got an order in. Nice little addition to the Middle Earth collection!
