I only ever saw the remake once, upon release (and I was already a fan of the original by that point), and never felt the need to revisit what I considered a glossy, less impactful imitation. For me, it all felt too homogenised and safe with the grittier, drip-fed, creeping dread of the original all but scrubbed out in favour of more forced ‘scares’ and an increased focus on exposition and things making ‘sense’.

I remember the cast feeling pretty lifeless, too much blue filter smeared over everything, Samara being less memorable than Sadako, and the ‘horse on a boat’ being bollocks on toast.

That said, I might pick this up and give it a rewatch to see if time and distance removed from the original might enable me to revise my opinion (and, of course, see if you p****s have any taste at all).

Just opened mine, and paramount came soooo close on this. Removable jcard on the slip, including the front bbfc logos and 4k banner, BUT THEY HARD PRINTED THE BBFCS ON THE BLOODY SPINE! Grr I'll have to import it instead. Ffs

Looks great; is there any additional content on the discs? The last Blu-ray Steelbook disc was barebones.

Paramount are lazy like that. They very rarely remaster their soundtracks for catalogue 4K releases.

The tape looks more convincing and the Steelbook looks better too, even though it's the same..

The steel is a little different. The blue is much darker. I compared them both in hand earlier. I do prefer the old steel, marginally. The new slip is nice, minus the bbfc logos on the spine, obviously much better than the card o-ring the UK had previously. The new pet slip is great too.
