Damian Chazelle wins, hands down. Gotta be him. Two of the best films out of the last three years, and this one is amazing. But for the sake of naming nominees, here is my list of nominees:

Damien Chazelle
La La Land

Tom Ford
Nocturnal Animals

Barry Jenkins
Moonlight

Kenneth Lonergan
Manchester by the Sea

Denis Villeneuve
Arrival

Also, look out for Martin Scorsese for Silence, Mel Gibson for Hacksaw Ridge, or Clint Eastwood for Sully to be nominated.

I havent seen La La Land or Moonlight so right now i think Dennis V. (cant spell his last name) should take it for Arrival

Dennis Villeneuve or Damien Chazelle for me.

Arrival I think was the most beautifully shot film this year and Villeneuve deserves to get some recognition for it...
But Chazelle has the momentum right now with La La Land dominating the Golden Globes.

I think that Denis Villeneuve is an amazing director, but he does not seem to get the respect.

I started to watch this the other day, and I did not have enough time to finish it. I will do so in a little bit. I always enjoy these as well.

This has to be the hardest vote... they're all great directors! Villeneuve is now one of my all-time favourite directors, so it'd be pretty easy for me to go with him, but then Chazelle took a big risk with making a modern musical IMO and yet he smashed it, so he deserves it more IMO.

Damien Chazelle and Dennis Villeneuve are in my top 5 directors list in the last 2-3 years, but La La Land blew my mind this year and I have to pick Chazelle!
