Never got the hate this film got, absolutely love it
The hate was mainly from the religious group it offends. As with any religious film that denounces or questions Christ. Great film

Is this going to be some sort of collector's set because the opened steelbook image has a normal sized spine while the front and back artwork appear to be on a much wider case with the movie title on both spines?

FYI: Read that this release will have both the theatrical and extended cuts on 4K discs and then a special features Blu-ray. That's great news.

Oh okay, I always was under the impression that people thought it was more guilty pleasure material in general / had sloppy writing

Well yeah I guess that I suppose. But I wouldn’t say 50 shades of grey kind of sloppiness. The novel was still heavily criticised for being sh!tty and poorly written but it probably hits nerves of certain religious reviewers more than just someone who enjoys a mystery thriller. Can’t please everyone. I just enjoyed the film for what it was. Wasn’t a fan of the others though

I kinda soured on the book simply because it was so insistent it was telling the truth rather than just admitting it's fiction, my complaints have nothing to do with religion. The whole thing was overblown though, it probably shouldn't have gotten so much attention which helped turn it into a punching bag for its critics, I still have a first printing somewhere I really regret not selling during the peak of the mania.

That steel does look promising though.

Finally got my amazon order for this today. The steelbook is matte, but has "so dark the con of man" spot glossed across the lower front and "o'draconion devil" above the rose on the back and "oh, lame saint" below the rose. Took me about 5 minutes to notice it because you can only see it in the right light/angle. Cool little addition.

the steel for Hereditary had something similar, but this has even more of it. it's a nice subtle touch - and in keeping with the film!
