A bit disappointed with the look of that steel unfortunately. I love the overall look of the packaging, but the steel reminds me of one of the older blu ray releases, but where that had bright white and orange, this one is a bit muted and flat. It fits in with the dark aesthetic more, but still a bit disappointing for me.

Spot gloss would be good with some nice embossing/embossing...
It's not known yet if 2001 is embossed/debossed and looking at Titans of Cult Instagram photo does not look to having any
Until we get delivery or Titans provide more photos before release date it won't be known until then

Don't think i'v seen a CGI mockup complete with a streaky finish style, but knowing how scanavo on there own site are often wrong on the specs, it could still turn out glossy, and with that red, glossy is the way to go with this, will look really dull in a matt finish. Also, i don't recall that scene being in red, seems overkill to match the HAL theme

OK, so it's not the eerie "Requiem for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, 2 Mixed Choirs and Orchestra" composed by György Ligeti" but, if you haven't already, try watching the final twenty minutes or so of the "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" sequence with "Echoes" by Pink Floyd:-

Is it so hard to create a really great steelbook for 2001? Maybe this one will play Also Sprach Zarathustra when you open it, but at this point, what I can see of it looks boring. If there were some intricate embossing, surely ToC would want to show it off before the preorder, right?

I agree, but I think trade wide retailers/studios/suppliers etc purposely do not disclose the finish info now in anticipation that it might affect orders. All the studios and retailers bloody know full well that the finish is of importance to collectors and I think they don’t disclose this info now on the hope people purchase blindly, which they do, without knowing the true quality of the release.

My two cents
