Having a bigger color gamut is a GOOD thing. All the DPs I know LOVE the wider gamut.I have the Kimchidvd Fullslip steelbook with a lenti insert edition, so I guess I got a better one.
I didn't buy the US 2024 release, so will get this nice Boxset for the printed materials, and if it turns out to be a better Sony transfer, then that'll be a bonus.

I'm all for 10 bit color, I just hate the automatic brightness hike of a screen during HDR video, and unnecessarily lowered blacks just so that you could have brighter whites. I don't need to be blinded, all my screens are at less than 20% peak brightness (unless outside during a bright day), and I don't understand this TV nits 'race', when we watch movies in a light controlled environment (mostly).Having a bigger color gamut is a GOOD thing. Deakins also hates Lens anomolies and anamorphic 2.35 widescreen. So he's an odd duck anyway.
Switch modes. You should have a few different ones- One should say "cinema" or "film". It will be more balanced.I'm all for 10 bit color, I just hate the automatic brightness hike of a screen during HDR video, and unnecessarily lowered blacks just so that you could have brighter whites. Nah, that's the worst pre-set mode ever, on any telly, makes everything looks dim, dull, and ugly, like at an old cinema where the projector bulb is dying but no one would change it.One should say "cinema" or "film". It will be more balanced.
Right, I miss the days when you set everything up once in a decade, bought a disc, popped it in, and everyone saw pretty much the same picture. But since TVs vary in luminance and tone-mapping, you will see people complaining about HDR being too bright and also people complaining that it's not bright enough!

Actually its even worse when they are making mistakes on the encodes.Nah, that's the worst pre-set mode ever, on any telly, makes everything looks dim, dull, and ugly, like at an old cinema where the projector bulb is dying but no one would change it.
I calibrate each TV with a THX disc.

Now it seems you have to adjust nearly everything for each. There are recommendations coming from every side – for that movie you need to turn that up, on that player you better switch this mode to that, and that to this. Jeez.![]()

They did replace all 4 first Rocky discs, I received them late last year, even though I requested them late.I had to redo the audio and re-encode a new disc for ROCKY II because they screwed up the pitch of the audio.
Yeah they use 4K as an excuse to wack the price up on stuff.Ordered, looks like a beautiful package, honestly surprised by the relatively okay price, maybe because it's blu-ray instead of 4K
I really like the look of this set. Gorgeous packaging, but the movie is one that I struggle with on repeat viewing: hard to recapture the magic if the first time.
