For a thread on the Ninja forum to get over 1000 comments and 50+ pages , is highly unusual. I think the last time we had this kind of community interaction was Zavvi/Everything Blu The Fifth Element about three years ago. If I remember correctly that hit about 1100 comments.

This just shows how HiDefNinja is still a more interactive, engaging and open source of relevant opinions than else where. Their thread via MP for Astros Annihilation and other @AstroC13 releases, doesn't even come close to the amount of constructive and helpful community driven engagement that we've had here.

That speaks utter volumes in my opinion.

Surely, for the sake of our Non UK based buyers, the site and @Wreck @apsmith21 (insert all mods here, apologies if I've left out other relevant site runners) @AstroC13 @samdavies can come to some sort of agreement. It just seems so reductive, to effectively out of nowhere, suddenly shut off all but one avenue of availability for non UK buyers.

Sorry all, I was busy last night, so I missed all the hullabaloo. I had voiced strong objections against an MP GB move a while back now, but ultimately it's Dan's business and it's not my call.

Given I'm in the UK, it won't directly impact me purchasing, so I can still buy any titles I want from his web store, but I feel for the rest of the community who cannot, and won't deal with MP.

From what he has been told, and for the way he thinks it will work, I can see the sense in it for him, but I'm dubious it'll play out so well. I hope it works out for him, and much like @Wreck, Ive left the door open to continue HDN GBs if his plans change.
RIP Astro

I imagine part of the MP agreement was they wanted 100% exclusivity and any other form of group buy would void it. Could be wrong but this is the type of **** MP pulls.

I get what you're saying, and it has had a LOT of interaction here, which is awesome, and as much as my ego would love to take the credit for that lol Honestly, it's much more down to the fact that it's a great title, being released by a UK boutique oufit that engages with it's customer base, rather than the GB I held.

To be transparent, there were 63 editions sold here, with 25 of those being OCs. That's 113 copies of a 2,250 slip print run. 5% total. Appetite for HDN GB copies, of which I actually had a fair bit more than 5% initially, does not equate to how popular this thread has been. It's important to keep perspective with all this.

It's not really for me to comment on the reasons or move rationale for partnering to facilitate international purchases. That's a business decision. I obviously wouldn't have wanted to choose MP, but I haven't looked into other options, and who knows, it may turn out differently than we're expecting.

I think it’s more that people don’t understand why that 5% still can’t be held here. Whether that’s with you or someone else. And it’s looking very clear like I mentioned before and @djjez83 that it’s down to MP purely wanting exclusivity to themselves because that is the kind of sh!t they would pull. And that deal is they handle all international which I agree is a heavy load for @AstroC13 to unload. It’s an appetising deal. And of course it’s speculation but if that was the deal laid out on the table it’s just a shame that he’s essentially taken the easier route but lost a good proportion of international (and maybe U.K.) buyers due to that.

I can’t quite work out why you would want to do that to your customers other than he didn’t realise so many people have had previous issues with them or refuse to join them. Which I also find hard to believe in honesty. It’s just a bit confusing because I see the pros in logistics but that’s it and it’s only to a certain crowd of buyers so I see the cons outweighing them by a county mile. How did he not see that?

That's what I mean mate, I can’t comment on that. It's not my decision. I can’t say if they want exclusivity, or whether he would prefer them to - but lets face it, as a business it wouldn't make all that much sense in giving (example figures) 5% to one outlet, and 45% to another if there was no need to.

This was never a HDN allocation to begin with btw. It was my allocation given due to Dan's and my relationship, that I said I would make available for members here. Which I would happily do again, if the opportunity presents itself.

The MP stigma is very unfortunate, and it's why I spoke against it initially, but I don't think he's making these decisions to spite collectors, and I also don't think he expected the news to go down so badly here. We'll just have to see how it all pans out.

Oh yeah I fully understand mainly had it on my mind and wanted to mention it and then your percentage breakdown was a good opportunity to just voice it.

I get that, I don’t have an answer for that other than it’s not the worst thing in the world to do that split. Tbh if this is the only way to buy internationally then I believe they’ll be more takers through HDN GBS so a 40/10 split maybe would work. I dunno

Yeah I know, this is why I kinda feel bad your being dragged into this in a way but your a main member here who speaks daily so it’s kinda easy to reply to you if that makes any fukin sense lol

Oh I don’t think he’s done this to spite anyone. Not at all. But limiting this kind of thing to one forum was always going to spark debate and outrage regardless of what site it was. Just unfortunate it’s the one everyone’s either had issues with or straight up can’t stand

Yeah, I get you, and as I said, I don't mind doing it, or chatting about what I can chat about, but I'm not about to badger him into it either lol he needs to do what suits his business best.

If it all works out well, and something more fairly structured and less tyrannical is setup via an MP international storefront, great. If the feedback is that there's still X collectors that can't buy, we'll have to see if/how he would want to approach that.

I can’t speak to anybody’s interactions with MP in the past, but in my experience it’s been very good.

Interactions haven’t been hostile to me and if anything has been pleasant at times. It’s a nice peace of mind having the option to guarantee a copy of something for a slight premium.

I don’t think it should be the only outlet but having the option is nice when there’s a really sought after title.
