If I do what this guy is talking about (check the video) but would doing it that way change the way the watts are distributed from the receiver?

I can't check that vid right now, but most recievers have independent power supplies for each channel - which means that however you configure the amp, or however you hook up/bridge the speakers, you will get the same amount of power. You can hook up a speaker with a lower impedance to get more power, but you'll also get more distortion, heat, and likely fry the amp if it's anything lower than 6 ohms.
