Obviously not sold out. Numerous members here have ordered>cancelled>reordered with discount codes, so that ate a lot of the allocation up. I saw someone post here of his 4 orders (brave) which will be cancelled. Assuming he meant 4 orders and not 4 copies. I imagine a chunk was allocated for the Zbox bundle. Then all the eBay nitwits who will either be cancelled or will cancel themselves when they can't sell their preorders.

Unless Zavvi disclose the print run then I call bullshit.

It is not 'sold out' because people will cancel orders? I guess the crystal balls at Zavvi HQ must be out of order at the moment.

I think what zavvi does with preorders is they have preorder waves, this will definatley be back in stock soon.

It's probably just that they allocated a certain amount of Steelbooks for the ZBox (which haven't sold out yet) and a certain number to order seperately (which have sold out)

That would make sense in my opinion. How could they offer it with the Zbox if all copies sold entirely?

There are always cancellations so it will be available again. The suggestion that Zavvi have sold four thousand copies now and are saving another twelve thousand (or more) for a rainy day is completely ludicrous though.

I bet they sell much more between now and the time it is released than what sold today. You are in denial if you think they didn't hold back the majority of the stock. Its a great strategy that they have done over and over.

I'm willing to bet a tenner that they will even go as far as reducing the price a little £19.49 ish on some 'special summer offer' come June if it's still available. Or it will drop to £21.99 and with the usual 10% WELCOME code people will be grabbing it for under £20.

Why? for numerous reasons such as it's an old film now. And Blufans is still yet to release theres which they will most definitely exceed in terms of quality against the zavvi one.

Wait.... What? Either you've typed that wrong or I'm reading it wrong, but that first sentence is making my head hurt.

It makes sense to me. I thought you were suggesting that there was something underhand about it being marked as 'sold out' but you explained it by saying that it was due to cancellations which are difficult to predict.

It is a terrible strategy. It is foolish to sit on stock when you have customers ready to place an order and competitors probably planning rival editions. A great strategy would be to get this out as quickly as possible.

How can they oversell something that is open ended?

How can you post baseless speculation with such confidence?

'Zavvi Sold Out' is pretty much the same as any other companies 'Sold Out'. Kimchi have a similar system and nobody really complains. The difference is the majority of people keep their Kimchi pre-orders whereas people are constantly cancelling Zavvi orders because they change their mind, decide to cut down on Steelbooks, Zavvi have peeved them in some way etc.

The answer to that question is that they wouldn't. As you say there is no need to create hype for a title like this, marking it as 'Sold Out' when it is not would probably do more to harm sales than improve them.

I wish that were the case, then I could finally get the Memento Kimchi steel. Nah, everyone knows Zavvi sell outs almost always come back in stock at a greatly reduced price. Don't know if that's the case with this steel but it usually is.

I wasn't suggesting anything underhand. I know how archaic Zavvi's ordering system is. The way I see it working is like this (all quantities are baseless and guess work) :

4k print run
2k pre allocated for Zbox bundle
Remaining 2k for standard pre orders, and all gone
Of that 2k, maybe 1k are customer cancellations already due to messing about with discount codes
Zavvi's system is old as **** and not live, so any cancellations are not put immediately back into allocation, instead added to a 'pot'
The rest of the cancellations, either over orders cancelled by Zavvi or customer cancellations down the line, will be added to the previous pot
The pot will go back on pre order about a week before release

That makes sense in my head but it's difficult to write down. Essentially I wasn't implying that Zavvi are holding back pre orders to raise hype. They might be, I dunno, but I wasn't saying that.

Its not foolish what so ever. They will get more business because they can sell at times around other releases and gain more subs. They will sell every copy no matter what they do at what ever price they want. Its leverage and will attract more shoppers to their store when the Avengers 2 steelbook goes on sale. This is a marvel steelbook, not Rambo III.
