LMAO, hardly a lesbian 'porn' film with that 1 scene.... I personally love the psychological turmoil and metamorphosis she undergoes in a very dark, risky way for a female lead. Can't wait to get this! Jericho, yes, those were part of special art done to promote the film.

yeah, not many lesbian porn flicks get the steelbook treatment.

LOL, I'm not sure what you call lesbian porn, but I can show you my hard drive :hilarious:

+1

Also love Arnofsky's style from this, Requiem (which I happened to watch this weekend, a very hard film to watch I might add), the wrestler, fountain, pi, etc...

I actually always look at this and the wrestler almost as two halves of a whole. Black Swan trying to always please herself to the point of perfection and Randy doing whatever he can to please the fans. One starting her career the other on the opposite end and so on

I do agree that is nice art but I am convinced I will never find the art I am thinking of, either that or I imagined it. It was like a painted natalie portman and there was like shattered glass. I could have sworn I saw it in a box set, maybe it was someones idea for what they wanted to see

Just finished watching this. Great film but just not one I want for my Steelbook collection.

I am glad that the wish has come true for those of you who were waiting for it in Steel.

nahhh! good film but not to the point ok having a steelbook for it!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who has no interest in this. I still regret paying release day prices for the Target exclusive. Not everyone's cup of tea I suppose.

This is just fantastic news, been holding off buying the Amaray just in case a Steel came along.

Not really liking all of those alternative artworks though; they're nice, but they're not very evocative of the real themes of the film.

Excellent comparison, but I also think the film is as much a companion to Requiem for a Dream, where the pursuit of personal dreams goes hand in hand with self destruction; or how a false reality, whether created by drugs, or desire, or ambition, supersedes the desirability of the real world until the very concept of reality becomes lost.

Aronofsky is certainly one of the most talented directors working today and I'm very excited to see what he will do with a large budget in Noah.

With regards to the artwork, I'm very much hoping to see something evocative of the tone and/or themes of the film. I have nothing against Natalie, but I don't want to end up with a steel with her head-shot on it.

I was more taking a stab at the film, I personally think the film is quite awful, and the fact that the lesbian fantasy scene i was referring to is probably the most well known and remembered scene from the film says it all.

It's a film full of cliche's and stereotypes, and a film that failed to get me and many others emotionally invested in it, which is crucial in this sort of film.

I saw the trailers for the film before its release, it looked like Aronofsky had created another masterpiece and i anticipated its release. but then i saw the film. it spends its duration highlighting the psychological trauma Portman is going through but its not remotely captivating or interesting. thats partly because the so called metamorphosis you mention isn't that dramatic. She doesn't go through any true metamorphosis during the film. she starts the movie as a fragile, neurotic, borderline crazy girl. And she ends the movie as a fragile, neurotic, completely crazy girl. thats more like a partial transformation. the film documents the last 10% of her transformation. & there's no reason to get invested in her when they don't bother giving you the whole picture.

Portman's performance was great like most of the cast and the cinematography is stunning. they make this a film at least worth watching. but thats on a superficial level , and thats not enough for me to enjoy it again and again. So to me and many others the film just isn't steelbook material.

I can see that comparison and can see that point. I really, my only counterpoint is again I feel its a comparison on how far a person is willing to go and why, which does tie into Requiem as well. At the end of Wrestler
Randy makes that leap from the top rope knowing it will please his fans but could cost him his life
in black swan she
goes into the second act knowing her insides are cut up because her self transformation is complete and its for herself

Also to say the only reason to see this movie is because of that scene, I will at least say Natalie Portman did win the oscar for her role in the movie and if I am not mistaken the movie and arnofsky were nominated for oscars.

Also having been born in Brooklyn, Arnofsky can do no wrong :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I think you're right and that Black Swan and The Wrestler go hand in hand, and were almost certainly intended to compliment each other. Didn't the original screenplay that would eventually become The Wrestler feature both a wrestler and ballerina?

The film was indeed nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, for whatever that may actually be worth.

While I'm never one to assault people's opinions, I'm not keen on the throwing around of phrases like "Me and many others" etc. Can we please speak just for ourselves, and not the hypothetical masses? Quite conveniently, me and many others believe this film to be perfect steelbook material. So at best, we reach a stalemate and prove such claims redundant.

That said, you don't think much of the film, and argued why intelligently, so the opinion itself I respect completely, sir! (even if I disagree) :naughty:

Maybe, I'm not sure abour the original screenplay, either way

I have to speak up for the hypothetical masses. I'm the voice of the voice of the voice of the voiceless. It's a thankless task but someone's gotta do it.

And I respect the respectfulness of your respect for my opinion. And I in-turn respectfully respect your opinion...:giggle:
