hmv Exclusive Cine Edition: Boogie Nights - limited to 1500 copies

An epic-size story about the adult fi lm business in the 1970s San Fernando Valley, Boogie Nights breaks convention and delivers sex, drugs, violence and unexpected tenderness. It is a classic backstage tale told through the rise and fall of Dirk Diggler and an extended family of filmmakers, who try to elevate the porn film to artistic heights. As exhilarating and moving as it is hilarious and daring, “with Boogie Nights we know we’re not just watching episodes from disparate lives but a panorama of recent social history, rendered in bold, exuberant colours,” Mick LaSalle wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle. “It is the first great film about the 1970s to come out since the ‘70s.” In only his second feature, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood) serves notice of a potent cinematic force

This Cinedition line is D.O.A. for me now.

What is the obsession with ‘art cards’? Do they really think collectors crave those things? “Well, butter my balls, the new cine edition of Boogie Nights comes with not one, but two, dynamic images of PTA sat by a camera, a third with Philip Seymour Hoffman and another with the most unflattering image ever of Rollergirl in the background, basically looking like she’s borrowed the body of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It will be mine (hopefully they’ll do ‘There Will Be Blood’ next, so I can get my hands on some art cards of PTA sat at another camera, but taken from behind)”.

Rollergirl on the new cover (which is an awful cover drawing) yet no decent picture of her on the included art cards. Massive waste of time these Cine Editions are becoming
