It's 2026 and we're meant to believe that instead of immediately uploading the most sensational discovery in living memory to social media thereby exposing it to the whole world, the characters instead decide to reveal it through a local news station for no other reason than it allows all of the other events of the film to happen. Colin Firth's character spends the whole film trying to stop this from happening, but in the end just gives up and watches it happen. At the start of the film the male protagonist has a magical alien wand which terrifies the bad guys and allows him to rescue his girlfriend, but at the motel he gives it to his girlfriend for safekeeping who escapes while allowing himself to be captured. Why didn't he just do what he did at the start of the film? The girlfriend also attempts to kill him at one point, but instead of cutting her loose he decides to keep her around which leads the goons directly to them. Colman Domingo's character has a whole ass living alien which he could reveal at the start of the film, but then it would only be 5 minutes long. Also if the aliens are all powerful they could've just revealed themselves at any time. And then there's the alien language weather report which quite honestly is laugh out loud bad, as are the scenes where the male protagonist is "hiding" in plain sight between a flimsy wooden fence before stealing a car, and with his girlfriend behind a tiny rock with the bad guys just yards away. Stevie Wonder could've spotted them.
