So glad that they aren't doing any Mondo Steel. Lame back and a huge Steelbook text printed on the spine.

Jeez....what's with all the hate for Mondo. We have an entire forum dedicated to those Steels

Not wanting Zavvi to at least try to get some Region 2 copies sold over here is a little selfish, no one would force you to buy them it would just give some people the option if another Steelbook Zavvi has done or will do has bad artwork.

Here, here. I love the Mondo design and can't understand the "studios should only choose poster art" logic. It's a breath of fresh air to see innovative artwork even if it's not always desirable.

Yeah Zavvi used the poster art for Captain America and Thor and everyone hated them lol!

Sometimes the movie posters aren't that great, so they should at least try something different. If the poster is truly iconic then yeah fine with a nice finish it will look great but so many movie posters are just generic these days, and work as posters but not as anything else. The Mondo Flash will easily be one of the steels of the year, the art is exactly what fans would want from that release, same with Drive.

The art on this is nothing more that adequate, and been used before. It's not remotely in the same league as the Mondo version. Add to that, that it is a EiV release so pretty much 99% going to be matte finished and containing what is one of the worst bluray transfers of all time. Plus that price is just hilarious!

But the other EIV releases like the Crow and Departed had superb gloss finish

Yep just checked the Crow thread and you're right "gloss" although judging by the comments, a poor finish "not superb" badly produced art, terrible transfer on disc "I have the amaray and it's terrible" and many turning up scratched to bits. Doesn't bode well for Dredd, which still has the same terrible unwatchable transfer and art used before thats not a patch on the stunning Mondo "And I'm not a Mondo fanboy, I've passed on most of them" :p

Oh and of course the largest elepant in the room, the Crow was £16.99, not £24.99 LOL!

There is no life beyond the US border, or being more generous, outside North America. So there's no need to ship internationally.
Most US companies don't accept non US credit cards online for the same reason; they can't handle non US addresses (where you have a UK billing address and US shipping address for example).

Best thing is to befriend an American, preferably a steelbook collector (one New York friend sent me 3 steelbooks that were all 'imperfect' in one way or another - a dent, a spine stuck on at an angle, that sort of thing).

I think this UK steelbook is pretty good, but having the Japanese steelbook I'm not motivated to buy it at £25 (assuming it comes back into stock like most zavvi steelbooks). The Mondo wouldn't be close to a first choice of artwork, but as a Dredd fan I'd buy one. Unfortunately I'm having a (hopefully temporary) financial meltdown at the moment. And it's odd, you don't have any money, you feel depressed, and you really want to go shopping to cheer yourself up!

i think the Japanese steelbook is great too, the image of Judge Dredd is crisp and seems to pop out from the background giving you some sort of a 3D perspective

Simple fact, the Japanese version is the best version, better back art, better transfer with a lovely purpley oily sheen.

Followed by Mondo, French pack, Dutch Pack........ then this. [emoji41]
Bit hard to tell how this ranks until it's released mate! Maybe we should let zavvi fcuk it up first before assuming it will be the most rubbish version available. But I have to admit the Japanese version is sweet!!

As far as I know there are only 2 releases that feature the 2D on a standalone disc. The Japanese version and the French version. The rest all feature 3D/2D. If you're not bothered about the 3D release then just pick up the UK disc :)

Finally cancelled my Z-Box bundle today - as frankly I have no doubt I can get the film on ebay far cheaper than the £40.00 it would have cost me for the steel and the Z-Box. As someone that's had a couple of these boxes of crap now (once as I liked the idea and once just to get a specific steel) not only are they not worth £20-£40 as claimed they are essentially just boxes of leftovers. So, for me, I'm essentially being asked to pay more for a steel I want as the Z-Box portion of the "deal" is worthless.

I'm not going to bash Zavvi too much as they are free to run their business how they choose and I would say that 99% of the items I've had from them I've been happy with. However, the last couple of months have made me question their appalling customer service even more and make me wonder whether they give a damn about customer retention at all.

I paid nearly full price for The Departed and Gangs of New York only to see them discounted a week after launch. Zavvi saw fit to cancel my order of Ex Machina (and refuse to reinstate it) even though I asked them to cancel a different order entirely. They also cancelled my order of Sleepy Hollow as they got some damaged items - fair enough but they seem to have done precisely nothing to get replacement copies in, so by some arbitrary selection process I missed out even though I ordered day one.

Now I have the Dredd amaray and it seems this will be the same disc anyway, so I'm purely missing out on paying £40 for a steelbook case. Which doesn't seem like I'm missing out at all in hindsight. The fact they jacked up the price to £24.99 in the first place is shocking (on par with NEW releases like Big Hero 6 - really Zavvi?) but its the constant pairing of ALL their most sought after steels with the crappy Z-Box that is really grinding me down. I doubt they will change their ways either.

Hope all who got this steel on its own enjoy it - and maybe I'll end up buying a copy from one of you down the line. It'll certainly be cheaper and my money at least won't go to Zavvi.
