This Limited Edition is available exclusively from zavvi.com in the UK and Europe. 6,000 copies of the PlayStation 3 version are now available for pre-order on the site, in addition to 4,000 copies of the Xbox 360 version. A total of just 8,000 (PS3) and 5,000 (Xbox 360) units of this edition are being manufactured worldwide, so numbers are strictly limited. Both of these editions have now appeared back on zavvi.com, and are both available for pre-order as of today, while stocks last.

If you placed a pre-order for the original PS3 Limited Edition that was announced back in August (and which was unfortunately made unavailable recently) that pre-order will be automatically carried over to secure you a copy of the updated edition.

Basically Zavvi's new release will have no MGS1 or MGS4 and more merch. Though some folks are reporting that Zavvi's promising MGS4 for those who pre-ordered the initial PS3 MGS HD Collection SB.

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater opens the set, with series hero Snake entering a Soviet jungle where intelligence reports a vital scientist is being held captive. Set in the 60s of the Cold War, Snake Eater sees Snake using his stealth abilities in a whole new locale - under the cover of the jungle foliage where various camo fatigues can be used to sneak into areas undiscovered. The riveting plot then reveals a familiar face from Snake's past at its centre.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker takes place a decade later and details the operations of Big Boss in Costa Rica. The year is 1974, and Costa Rica has been overrun by an organization of highly-trained mercenaries. Working with a squad of neutral troops, Snake soon uncovers a CIA plot, and becomes embroiled in a mission to thwart a nuclear threat. The timeline then moves on to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, which is set in modern times and marks Raiden's first appearance in the series.

Solid Snake and Otacon receive intel that a new kind of Metal Gear vehicle is being transported across the Hudson River. Snake infiltrates the tanker, which is then seized by a group of Russian mercenaries lead by Revolver Ocelot. Two years pass, and a new terrorist faction calling themselves The Sons of Liberty have taken over the Big Shell base. New Fox Hound operative, Raiden, is sent to investigate.

Hi guys, I was curious and sent an inquiry to Zavvi-here is their answer. I originally asked them if this was truly sold out, or if there was a chance it would come back.

Please take this with a grain of salt, as a retailer can place orders for items, that are not actually in stock at the distributor level, and this could also just be a "blanket" answer. But FYI.

"Hi,

Thank you for your email.

A new order of this item has been placed so will hopefully soon be back in stock.

Kind regards

Daniel"

OMG  i hope what they told digitalbabe is right, i want this, and i'm gutted it sold out. if you read on its literally the complete mgs collection, also comes with mgs4 and an activation code for mgs from the playstation network. simply stunning. i'm going to be devestated if this is truly sold out.

ok can someone help me out here....

i've been away from SB collecting for the last couple of months, and during that time i recall this steelbook being cancelled from my zavvi order - thinking that they didn't have enough to fulfill orders they sold my copy to someone else - thus cancelling my order which ticked me off. but i didn't follow-up as it was just as annoying to communicate with Zavvi's help support.

and i thought this steelbook has already been sold and that was the end of it.

now i get an email saying it's to be released in Feb next year? and with a different design? so this item was never actually released yet and i can wait for it to arrive in Feb? nice.

now if only i can get my $ back for the Gears of War 3 SB that never arrived. been waiting for a response from their support team but it's hopeless.

They cancelled orders, either due to taking too many, or more likely due to confusion over whether it was being delayed or totally cancelled. It's still listed as sold out, so if your order was cancelled, you still won't get it unless they allow more orders to be placed and you place a new order, and there's no news on if they're doing that or not. Zavvi have said anyone with an existing uncancelled order will get it and a copy of MGS4, which was listed with the original version. I would think that means they plan to take new orders, and those won't get MGS4. They also have a 360 version listed, but that one can't be ordered either. It might just be a placeholder.

thanks Ashcroft.

i looked at my account and it now says "Awaiting Stock Pick" with a dispatch date of "Est: 25/11/2011" lol.

oh zavvi... when will you ever get your act together?

ok think i'll go rough them up about my GoW3 SB.

Waste of time. Zavvi's barely concious staff will have no idea what the difference is, and will either assume it's a steelbook based on the press release, or just have a guess.

I still think / hope it's just a mock-up that looks like a Stickerbook.

Here is another mock-up that looks more like a standard Steelbook:

either way, it's 50/50 being a stickerbook. The EB game cover is just a snapshot of the Zavvi cover, so no indication that it's a standard steelbook.

also, it's 50/50 being a G1 size too since XBOX is the same...with Final Fantasy recent release, both PS3 and XBOX are G1 size.

as of now, it's all uncertainty of the final product.

More updates. 360 version confirmed. Goes back on sale on the 7th. Now limited to 13,000 instead of 4,000.

I'd get in quick, because these are still going for totally stupid amounts on eBay.

I thought EB Australia had the same deal?
PS3 version: http://www.ebgames.com.au/ps3-155895-Metal-Gear-Solid-HD-Collection-Limited-Edition-PlayStation-3
360 version: http://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-155894-Metal-Gear-Solid-HD-Collection-Limited-Edition-Xbox-360
My real issue is - just how limited is 'limited'?
