When it comes to extras there are some releases that have fantastic documentaries or features about a film includedDoes any one actually watch any extras or listen to commentary tracks i have a small collection of discs compared to some but have never watched any extra
I only watched the LOTR extras once, but I watched all of it (and they may actually have been longer than the EE movies) and I frequently watch the extras. OTOH, I rarely listen to commentaries and I’m not sure that I listened to these. I did listen to Roger Ebert’s track on Dark City. I may have listened to his Citizen Kane commentary too.Does any one actually watch any extras or listen to commentary tracks i have a small collection of discs compared to some but have never watched any extra

Not gonna lie, it's very rare that I do. However, with films I absolutely love and feel I can't get enough of, then I like to watch everything! That said, I've still never actually listened to the commentary for LOTRDoes any one actually watch any extras or listen to commentary tracks i have a small collection of discs compared to some but have never watched any extra
Your "scrolling" comment made me realise I mostly tend to watch behind-the-scenes stuff whilst I'm working... so basically just have it on in the background.I've never watched any of the extra's on any of the physical media I've ever owned. I have found myself watching most of the behind the scenes documentary's that Disney have put out on D+ for their shows though (The Mandalorian, WandaVision etc etc). I think it's just more accessible to watch that kind of thing when you're sat scrolling looking for things to watch vs having to go put in a disc
You are missing out on brilliant extras on some DVD and Blu-ray releases that have fantastic documentary's and making off featurettesI've never watched any of the extra's on any of the physical media I've ever owned. Each film on UHD and BD theatrical plus extended: that's already 6 discs per LOTR and 4 per Hobbit, as those EEs weren't split - which is what we have in this box set, and that's all we have... plus 1 measly disc of extras.I too remember reading about it somewhere, but seriously, that would be approx. 9 discs per film. Splitting one film on two discs, that would still be approx. seven extra discs for each title. Simpy impossible.
Which country has 51 discs?
There is now new separate Blu-ray ray releases of Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended and Theatrical editions with the remastered transferNobody. Just people pissing and moaning non stop about how this collection doesn't have every single extra ever released on previous editions...that they all already own...but want them again in this collection but with new 4K discs and they want the most epic art they have ever seen on this which apparently it doesn't have.
Because you know, nobody is ever happy.
There is now new separate Blu-ray ray releases of Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended and Theatrical editions with the remastered transfer
The new Blu-ray extended trilogy edition includes the previous extras it's a 15 disc release has all the extras from previous extended edition.
USA releases already available to pre order
You do understand don't you that there is always new customers every day/week/month/year who don't have any of the previous physical home media releases
You also have those that have previous releases who want the new transfers but don't want 4K UHD or don't want to spend £200 or more
This is why you get new releases and re-releases on home media of back catalogue films
Baby grows up to be a teenager then an Adult who has money to spend from this you get new customers every day who don't have previous releases on Blu-ray
A lot of the new customers was not even born or was earning a wage when previous home media editions was released
Have you ever purchased a film on Blu-ray as in not had it in your collection before as when the previous release came out you was just a kid or not working yet you would be considered a new customer when you purchased that re-release of a back catalouge film
These new customers and those that have an older release get the new transfers and previous extras without having to purchase an older release or more expensive edition
The new Blu-ray trilogy extended edition will sell more anyway than the 4K UHD editions (As UHD still only has a tiny market share)
Most people that still like physical media purchase DVD or Blu-ray and that shows with the market share of purchases done
DVD still outsells Blu-ray and Blu-ray outsells UHD Discs
Those that no longer purchase physical media do digital purchases instead or stream from likes of Netflix etc
Most 4K viewing is done on 4K TV's using streaming with apps built into those Tv's or streaming devices connected to a 4K tv this why UHD disc sales still has tiny market share
Example Apple TV 4K box you get access to iTunes extras on lot of releases and watch the films in 4K if a 4K version of film been released and even previous HD purchases you get free upgrade to 4K if a 4K release available
Also some iTunes releases often include extras you don't get on physical media releases
Middle Earth Collection Extended is available on iTunes includes the previous extras from both Lord of the Rings and Hobbit and cost lot less than having to purchase the UK 4K UHD Disc Ultimate Collection
iTunes price is £44.99/€49.99 and those who have Apple TV 4K box can watch in 4K and those who don't have Apple TV 4K Box can watch in HD on PC or Apple iPhone/Ipad etc
iTunes extras can also be watched on a PC using iTunes app or on iPhone/iPad using Apple TV app
TV's that have apple TV app you don't get access to itunes extras but you do if you using Apple TV Box device connected to your TV or you can just connect your PC to your TV to watch the iTunes extras on a big screen
At the moment iTunes release It's only missing the 2 extras that are on the new bonus blu-ray disc that is in the ultimate box set but could easily later be added to iTunes as that often happens you see new extras added at a later date and without having to pay anything extra
Price of Lord Of the Rings Blu-ray Trilogy Extended Edition is $69.99 and possibly less with some retailers closer to release date or after

UK Blu-ray releases of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy remaster editions will be announced soon
Lot of people won't have previous release so that is why they would expect a remastered edition to include the previous extrasBut all that pissing and moaning...so unnecessary.
Must say I do actually really like that "feature" and hope more use it going forward... I often struggle to store the wide sets (or vice versa in some cases), so having the option to fold it into a box is great!12 seconds in my brain couldn't even compute how the box collapsed like that
Film releases are not just Physical MediaOnly a major studio could make a video, where you can't see whether the individual cases are digipacks, or what...
P.S. PaulBoland, you know you wrote basically the same thing three times just on this page. I guess you assume noone reads the whole thread, but still, so much effort...
Also, I hope you're not advocating for streaming. That is not owning, and that is not 4k quality.
