I don't understand laying any failures of this franchise at the feet of Disney?... The Predator series was perfectly good at pumping out lacklustre movies prior to Disney acquiring Fox.

And since then? Well Prey was under Disney and that was fantastic. Killer of Killers (even though not necessarily to my taste) was also widely praised.

Furthermore, Alien Romulus was under Disney and whether you liked it or not it was still a sci-fi/horror and stylistically within the realms of the franchise as a whole.

And before I forget, The First Omen (2024)... That's also Disney, and although it didn't find its audience it was a well reviewed, solid horror movie, and more than worthy addition to that franchise.
4 things Disney have done right with previously existing IPs are those 4 examples right there. They really sorted those franchises out and was genuinely shocked the route they were taking Predator and Alien. Absolutely loved Prey and Romulus. Killer of Killers was everything I wanted to see in the Predator world, albeit animated and would prefer live action WW2 and feudal Japan stories but the animated film turned out pretty perfect. And I had high hopes for Alien Earth due to Noah Hawley but unfortunately he absolutely obliterated the story and gave nothing but stupid idea after idea.
So I let that one slip and more looking forward to Romulus 2 but I’m in 2 minds with this one. Parts of it I enjoyed and parts annoyed the f**k out of me. I was interested in seeing the Predator as the protagonist and they pulled it off but only by making it more for kids and Disney-fying that world. Which will now become a Star Wars thing. And that’s fine but that’s not what the originals and Prey was like. I do need to see this again though to decide how I feel about it

The first Omen was excellent by the way. That went right under the radar too. Great prequel

I'm ok with these wrap around steelbooks if both images can be passed off as an image on their own. In this case you have the back of it that means nothing without the front.

In another reply to that Insta post Matt confirms they'd be looking to use the SDCC artwork for a future steel which is this one below (I got a few of these prints when I saw the film at the cinema)

Would fit the Romulus steel nicely if they keep the white boarder

I think they missed the opportunity to show us the Predator hunting during the Viking Age. There could be great fights between our beloved alien hunter and Viking warriors. And why not a hunting campaign in antiquity against hoplites? Or against Zulu warriors in the 19th century? Or against Samurai or Ninjas from the feudal Japan?
the first of the 'episodes' in Killer of Killers is set during the Viking Age, fyi. :) from what you are wanting to see, i strongly recommend you catch Killer of Killers, it pretty much answers your post!

i have still not seen Badlands, but both Prey and especially Killer of Killers, both also by Trachtenburg, advanced the earlier Predator lore (and even explicitly included some) while also doing something different. and neither could be said to have been made more kid-friendly by Disney. i also liked his 10 Cloverfield Lane, so am expecting to like Badlands. :woot: but i note the comments above about the possible change of tone.

all that said, the Ferguson art is clearly miles better!

Would be funny if Disney slap him on the wrist for talking about another steelbook design later down the line before the first release is out and Is cancelled because of that. Fingers crossed that don’t happen but he’s being quite ballsy speaking like this when Disney famously like to keep all this quiet and behind the scenes. And if this don’t sell too well what makes people think they’ll release a variant?

Anywho, I hope he has his art on a steel pretty damn soon…

Weyland Yutani logo on the spine of the standard edition has me thinking they are coming up with some kind of 'Weyland-Yutani verse' instead of going with AvP to combine the 2 franchises together (Alien/Predator). Probably just overthinking it though..
