So what MrYfronts and Paulboland are saying is it's ok for a major retailer to hold back stock UNTIL release day so customers get the item maybe 3-4 days after the actual release date!...how is that in any way acceptable....Disney should ensure that ALL stock ordered is delivered in plenty of time for Zavvi to charge people's cards, pack and dispatch the items and IF there is a delivery restriction in place for Royal Mail to deliver on release day that should be made clear as well...i have not even had a dispatch email for my 4K steelbook yet or any of the Paramount wave due for release tomorrow...hell I can go to Tesco"s tomorrow morning and pick up the 4K so how in any way is it acceptable for Zavvi to say it will be delivered between Wednesday and Friday this week!!! 2-4 days after release...what if it was a birthday present or something!....unacceptable and Zavvi should let their customers know if an item is NOT coming on release day!...no wonder they cleared out of here!!

I disagree. I don't believe any company is under any obligation to deliver a movie (or any other item) to your door on the day of release. So therefore it is acceptable. If this outrages you so much then don't buy from Zavvi ever again. That will show them! They'll never sell another Star Wars steelbook ever again!

I didn't get my Star Wars steelbook on release day!!! Oh the humanity!!!

Not gonna pick a side here but in all honesty, if getting the item on release date is the most important thing you should definitely buy whatever is offered in a physical store. There is way too much that can go wrong with postal orders. Even though it should be delivered on release date domestically, and they usually are, there is no guarantee. I’m used to not getting all my stuff delivered on release date.

I'm sorry but if you pre order an item from any company with a specific release date and that date is not going to be achievable then that company should be obliged to at least let their customers know that they will not receive said AND paid for item on its release day....hey tomorrow I'll go to Tescos and buy the 4K Amaray...ill pay my money and Tescos then say tell you what, you cant have it on release day, come back on Friday to pick it up! you OK with that?

Problems with stock not arriving to a retailer is due to the distributor

Disney punish retailers sometimes by delaying delivery of stock for previously delivering restricted release date releases before release date
When this happens It's not the retailer delaying delivery it's the distributor they can do this by not delivering all the stock to the retailer early

Retailers can often get delivery of stock 1-2 weeks before release date with some distributors releases
Some of these have a release date restriction and some don't
Some distributors don't care if in hand with customers before release date but some do mind

Zavvi have had to delay delivery until release date for some previous marvel and disney releases for this reason
Most UK customers got delivery on the Monday with these previous releases with release date restriction

Sending a dispatch email is not a delivery notice it telling you your order is on it's way and Zavvi like Amazon list estimated delivery date

Postal carriers do and have had instructions on a batch of parcels with a note attached not to be delivered until Monday even though they may have it already at local postal dept a few days
Some postal carriers though don't always apply these instructions so the only way to make sure it's not delivered before release date is delayed collection of parcels so it can't get delivered early

Amazon often don't deliver new releases by release date
Most of my pre-orders with amazon UK are not delivered until Tue with some not till Wed- Fri after release date
It's still only 2 days delivery after been dispatched

Ideally, any new release should pop through your letterbox on the Monday it comes out, that is, after all its official release date. In reality, this doesn't always happen (Amazon have always been terrible in my experience), but usually it does with Zavvi.

Except...

Oh yeah, on a great number of occasions I've received a steelbook on the Saturday before release. If I'm supposed to be unhappy that Star Wars will be late, then I suppose I should also complain that I've gotten things early too. You can't have it both ways can you?

Apparently you can.

I have never had a late delivery with Amazon UK...either release day or in the majority of cases the Saturday or Sunday...no disrespect but you don't live on mainland UK so I can imagine that your deliveries from mainland UK take slightly longer!

Maybe Zavvi should fine Disney for late delivery of stock as customers are not going to receive their items on day of release...thats certainly one way for Disneys embargo to work!!! Send product out late!i

I'm not disagreeing with you guys but I predict not ONE steelbook will be delivered tomorrow!....Zavvi got stock late, sent out a few emails and will dispatch them all tomorrow when the warehouse opens up in the morning!

Disney release date restriction means for retail store not to be sold until release date and with on-line stores not to be delivered before release date

If a retailer ignores a release date restriction they are the ones who get fined and I have seen this happen when working in the business previously
The fine was no delivery until after release date with future releases for a period of time
Disney are known to be strict on this

If you got a dispatch email you will get delivery what's the hurry  does it really matter to you if not delivered until Tuesday
Postal delays can also happen even if shipped early that don't have any restrictions

There has been lot's of UK customers not getting delivery from amazon on release date I seen the complaints in amazon UK own customer web forum

Now there I agree with you. I'll be amazed if anyone gets it tomorrow.

I can't remember the last Star Wars or Marvel steelbook I received before release date, maybe one of the Marvel/Netflix shows. Otherwise it's always been the Monday except Captain America: The Winter Soldier which I think was a few days late.

Im sorry to say this, but something really does need to be done about Paul Boland's overzealous and continuous defense for all things Zavvi.

I have no problem with Zavvi giving their own self promotion, as it's transparent, but Mr Boland I do wish you'd declare any self interests in your blatant offerings...

..just saying.

Yep I agree, no offense @paulboland but no one wants to listen to how it is done and you giving generic templated responses as if you are sat behind Zavvi's desk. No one gives a crap and why it is done in an X Y Z procedure. How about giving us an opinionated response rather than you educating us for once?

I don't have any connection to Zavvi I never had at any stage in my career
I worked previously for an independent music/film store in the UK then with Our Price in UK and then with Tower Records in UK and Ireland as a buyer and duty manager for various music genres and was a specialist buyer for film Music on CD/Vinyl/Easy Listening and Video/DVD and Importing music from around the world

After Tower Records I was then a manager of a second hand music/film store
I left the music/film business a few years ago and have being working in security since then

Release date restrictions are part of the business has been for years it's nothing new

Yes but there are release date restrictions and then there is Zavvi not sending these steelbooks out until release day so customers are not getting them when retail stores have them to buy...do you not get that paulboland ??

@paulboland you need to get a Job in Zavvi, it be perfect for you ;)
Ha Ha
Security business pays better that's why I changed career ;)
It would cost them a lot for me to go back to working for a retailer

The only way I will get back in the Music/Film business is if it's my own company
I was very close to doing this a few years ago until last minute family circumstances took priority over my business wishes

I keep now as a hobby an expensive one

Except you won't find this in any store on release day as it's a Zavvi online exclusive. And the only way you'll get it is to wait for it.

Is the delay just with the steelbook or has anyone received the Amaray's of the same film from Zavvi?
