I wasn’t big on Gunn’s superman. There’s elements I liked but wasn’t enough but rewatched it this week ready for SuperGirl and I ended up loving it.

I think the SuperGirl trailers look great but I’m hearing bad things. I’ll make my own mind up once I seen it
Similar thing happened with me. Gunns Superman is basically meant as a mindless popcorn film, I think Gunn even said that 'fast food' films had their place in cinema, specifically referring to Superman. If you take it at that level it's a lot of fun. Haven't heard great things about Supergirl though...

I’m not a huge superman fan anyway. I’ve always been batman through and through with DC but Man of Steel touched my heart. I fukin love that film. Love Cavill as supes. But I do praise Gunn for bringing the more wackier parts of comic books and making it work on film like with the Guardians trilogy, suicide squad (which all 4 of those I adore) and now Superman.

He does go there with the mental little characters and stuff like that and for me it works. Not many directors go there or can handle the bizarre but I think Gunn does handle the wackiness well. But yeah Supergirl isn’t sounding great at the moment. But also I don’t know if this is the bitter hate reviews because of that group of YouTubers that want it to fail or if it’s just bad. I think the clips I’ve seen look great personally. So we’ll see. Regardless of how bad it is I’m going to own a Manta copy anyway and most likely a WWA to go on my superhero/ comic book film shelf

What does the zavvi one look like? Didn’t even see it get announced

Edit: pretty sure they never announced one. At least there’s nothing in my emails

Saw this earlier, and I won't say it blew me away, but I definitely liked it way more than Superman. It really helps that I actually like Milly/Kara's character, and the film wasn't as painfully fluffy as Superman was either.

Positives - Kara/Milly is very likeable. Lobo/Momoa is awesome. The Krypton history segments are interesting. It's a lot like GOTG. It's actually a well made film, with no dodgy filming techniques or cgi.

Negatives - It's so much like GOTG (just without the fire group chemistry) that it isn't particularly interesting. The plot is pretty generic. It isn't so much that the villain is "bad", but there just isn't much relevance or connection to supergirl to make him/them remotely menacing.

Don’t forgetting dropping Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins. I thought Gunn was a terrible, terrible choice from the outset. And he’s living up to it.

I know they want to start over but is getting rid of Jenkins make sense. Is Gunn literally doing every film because if there truly doing a reboot that’s a whole lot of films.

I know Gadot just turned 40 but she’s still smoking hot they could have squeezed a couple more films out of her, even if she’s not the lead. Could just do a cameo for 20 minutes your box office goes way up just for putting her in the trailer.

If Supergirl is a bust there reboot is done before it even got started because Superman was just okay, like everyone has said Man of Steel is so much better it’s not worth talking about. How did Superman do Boxoffice wise?

Superman did over $600m world wide, so did just fine. Supergirl needs to get somewhere near $380m for a break even I understand.

Gadot looks great but she's widely mocked for her acting ability at this point, this is supposed to be a reboot of the universe and looking towards the future so there's good reasons to recast the role, if not though they really shouldn't have booted Cavill either as he both looks perfect and has enough acting talent for the role, whatever issues people had with his depiction in Snyder's movies was down to the scripts.

Superman didn't make a profit at the box office, $225 budget and $200 marketing. I'm sure some people made a profit out of it but as they only get half of the box office it means overall they got back $310 million on $425 million costs. Supergirl cost $170 and probably has a lower marketing budget but it's going to struggle at the box office and will have no hope in hell of making a profit, it's going to be one of the biggest flops more inline with The Marvels. What family would pick Supergirl the miserable drunk over a new Toy Story, Minions or Moana?

I really think it was a mistake to release this as the second film, if we compare it to GotG, that came out 6 years after Iron man and was the 10th MCU film, that's about right for a more alternative approach. Gunn should be giving us the core pillars of DC, Superman, Batman, Wonder woman etc, once those are successful then you can focus on the weird and whacky less popular ones but instead we get a miserable Supergirl as the second outing, it's as depressing to see Gunn fail despite every opportunity as it is to think of what he believes a superhero is.
