Had I not already bought the previous UK steel (which is better imo), I'd have grabbed this. The 4K doesn't exactly help the film though, so that's no boon for it either.

Erm, well, it looks as good as it's ever going to, but that's still not particularly great. The film had essentially no budget and was shot on very cheap 16mm stock, so it doesn't lend to the format, but it is what it is. ED2 does look much better, agreed, but that had a higher budget, and it's a 35mm 1.85.1 4K scan.
As I have not seen either in 4K I can’t comment but I am pretty sure that you could tart up 28 Days later over Evil Dead, just down to age and budget for the time.
Neither will ever look great without some amazing technology involved.
