A sequel TV series to the beloved 1993 classic film The Sandlot is on the way, with the original cast set to return. Last year was the film's 25th anniversary and it was reported that a prequel was in the making at 20th Century Fox. The original film spawned two direct-to-video sequels, but neither are discussed as much as the first film. Despite its lackluster critical reception, The Sandlot has developed a cult following over the years and is regarded as one of the best coming-of-age movies in recent memory.

During an episode of The Rain Delay, Evans announced that The Sandlot was getting a sequel TV series with the original cast returning. Offering brief details on the series, Evans revealed that it would take place in 1984 with all of the boys now grown up and with children of their own, who will presumably have a love for baseball as well. Evans also stated that the series will air on a streaming platform, but couldn't name which one landed the series.

The Sandlot TV Series in Development at Disney+

Following the recent announcement from director David Mickey Evans that The Sandlot would be returning as a series adaptation, Variety brings word that The Sandlot TV series is in development at Disney+.

Evans, who co-wrote and directed the 1993 film, will write and executive the series for Disney and previously mentioned that he was near a two-season deal. The series will be set in 1984, 22 years after the original film. That would put the actors at about the right age to play older versions of themselves. No other details about the pending series are available at this time.
