Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe soundtrack re-issue to 1982’s sci-fi horror classic, JOHN CARPENTER’S THE THING. Composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack to THE THING is a landmark musical composition that is cold, dark, minimal, and effective.

Considered to be John Carpenter’s directorial masterpiece, THE THING is praised as one of the greatest films of it’s genre by both fans and critics. Starring Kurt Russell and A. Wilford Brimley, THE THING follows a team of researchers in Antarctica as they are infiltrated by a parasitic extraterrestrial life form that assimilates other organisms and then imitates them. The classic soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone effectively captures the cold, isolated tone of the story and film, and marks one of the few John Carpenter directed films that Carpenter did not score himself.

Waxwork Records worked for two years to ensure that such a highly anticipated and sought after vinyl soundtrack re-issue would meet and exceed expectations of the biggest fan of John Carpenter and his sci-fi / horror tour de force that is THE THING.

Features include the complete Ennio Morricone soundtrack re-mastered from the original master tapes, your choice of two different 180 gram colored vinyl variants, all new artwork by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, deluxe heavyweight packaging including satin coated old-style gatefold jackets with UV spot-gloss varnish, an 11” x 22” poster, a custom hand assembled breakaway “ice” slipcase with 100% overall UV gloss coating, and an exclusive interview with director John Carpenter.

I meant seeing all the shots and details, when are they actually going to release the info. Considering this will most likely be live in about 20 hours they are leaving it all very late

But yeah I'll defo check between 5 and 6 uk time for ordering plus my boss isn't in tomorrow so that makes it easier lol but I can't be checking every half hour

Unless this is a smaller run than previous vinyl it won't sell out that quickly. Not all variants anyway
Well, we know this: the cracked Ice edition is the variant with the Black and Blue vinyl. So the standard is the white and Blood vinyl. But yeah, it is weird that there are no pics of the STANDARD edition sleeve.

$35 is usually for a double vinyl album, this'll be a single so price won't be too bad. So I reckon $27 for regular and $35-40 ice variant.

Ahhh for some reason I thought this was 2x vinyl

So yeah hopefully a bit cheaper then. Maybe the cracked ice slip variant will be $35 then

Yeah that's all we know so far, you mean blue and white vinyl?
Like from that original video

We have kinda seen a pic, in the video where they show off the sticker, you can see that's the standard edition which I assume will have the white and blood vinyl

I just think they missed the trick with not including that liquid vinyl with the ice slip editon. If you go all out then go all out! Don't do half and half

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if it's their way of charging the same price for both!

So far they have been $35 + $22 shipping to uk so more than $50 (not sure what you pay for shipping to France but I imagine it's the same) and i have a feeling this slip case variant will be $40 + shipping (possibly $62 :( )

They are leaving this one very late with beauty shots and details. I'm at work tomorrow and can't spend all day checking the site and waxwork for info on contents, pricing and pre order time.
Yes I know I meant less than $50 without shipping ;)

The Warriors deluxe edition was 125$ and it was the same 2 lps + a slip case, a booklet, patches and limited to 300...

I didn't even realise that

Not sure how after what they have explained is in the deluxe for this can warrant that price but I certainly hope it's not that expensive.
Would mean they are charging $85 just for the slip

But I'm guessing it still won't be that expansive considering warriors has a extra LP and patches

Well, @dan8885 (from his long history of buyng vinyl) seems to think this won't be a quick sellout, so hopefully you should have time to duck out once and check and get one. Fingers crossed!

Theres clearly more interest in this release than in previous ones by Waxwork. But Waxwork knows this so I don't think they do a super limited run on all variants that most people will miss out and be angry afterwards.

But like @comICS-soon already mentioned, with this "breakaway ice" Slipcase theres a new situation. The Warriors Boxset that was also released with a Slipcase and goodies was limited to 300 and heavy overpriced with 125 USD in my opinion. The Taxi Driver release also comes with a 4-page Booklet and additional liner notes by Scorsese and there was no extra cost for this. So with just a Slipcase, 1 LP, Booklet and a Poster I really hope they don't overcharge. It should be priced the same like Mondo's Fight Club since there was also a additional "break away" Slipcase and it was 35 USD for 2LP ...

Well, I'm buying it no matter the price. I'd really like if it weren't that expensive though. Also, @Flloydo said "I just think they missed the trick with not including that liquid vinyl with the ice slip editon. If you go all out then go all out! Don't do half and half".

Did I miss something that stated the white variant was "liquid"? Looks pretty standard to me.

No, we were/are hoping the red center of the white vinyl is liquid red.

This is the only pic I've seen of the white and blood vinyl

Like I said previously it might of been a prototype and not gone ahead but i think this will be a variant

They are seriously leaving this all so late.

Maybe to create panic buying
