AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC has greenlit The Walking Dead as a six-episode series based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The Walking Dead tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Teachers, Strike Back) will portray the lead role of Rick Grimes while actor Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, who worked with Rick in the police department before the zombie disaster. Other cast includes Laurie Holden (The Shield), who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), who plays Rick's wife Lori.

The Walking Dead begins production in June in Atlanta with six, one-hour episodes for season one. The series is set to premiere in October 2010 during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. AMC announced development of The Walking Dead in August 2009 and announced the pilot in January of this year.

About the Producers
Robert Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion serves as Executive Producer. Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) will also serve as Executive Producer, and Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

"AMC strives to make original shows that play like movies and The Walking Dead is a perfect complement to the network’s celebrated movie franchise, Fearfest, which has always been an important destination for our audience," said Charlie Collier, AMC President. "With its depth of story and the remarkable talent attached, The Walking Dead gives us an opportunity to raise the bar significantly within this popular genre, and continue our commitment to being the home of premium programming on basic cable."

"The Walking Dead is that rare piece of material that plays on many levels," says Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Programming, Production and Digital Content. "Kirkman's series brilliantly captures the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse; and let's us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time."

Hell yeah he did! But poor Andrea did not...lol.
Yeah, can't wait to see next season. Hopefully won't have to wait until end of October..... :(

More then likely we will have to wait that long:( ill be sure to pick up season 2 blu ray to see this show in full HD!!!

Yeah, I know.

If I'm lucky, I'll get to go the set for a scan session to scan some of the new characters.
I'd love to see the inside of that prison (or the set at least)

I really hope they bring Tyreese, one of my favorite characters in the comics:) such a badass!!!Micheal Jay White would be awesome in that role.
If you do go spawnshop, make sure you take many pics and post them here;)

The episode has its moments, but as a whole it was kind of a let down for me. Episode 12 is definitely tenfold better than the finale, in my opinion.

I'm glad that the body count wasn't as high as I thought it would be (projected that T-dog, Hershel, and the young sister would be zombie fodder, as well). Multiple great tense moments in this episode and it will interesting to see where it goes from this point on (i.e. next stop the Prison).

Has there been any news as to when season 3 will air? I'm thinking around October (i.e. near Halloween) sometime. Regardless, it's going to be a long wait...

At least we'll have the blu ray to hold us till then:) hopefully they don't release it twice like the first season :( I'm really hoping to get the Zombie head with the screw:cool:

I hope they include the webisodes of the "Torn Apart" side story with the Season 2 Blu-ray release. BTW, that Zombie head with the screw :scat:. I got to get me one of those as well.

i have no idea why people want t-dog to get killed off:angry:,If anyone should be killed it should be the wife, she makes me sick.

Not so much that I want T-dog to get killed off, it's just that he wasn't given that much to do this last season so I was expecting the worst. My projections weren;t based on dislike of characters, it was based on where I thought the storyline was heading. I'm glad T-dog made it Season 3. Hopefully, he'll be given more to do in the future.

As for Lori, I'm with you on that. She is pretty aggravating. She sets Shane and Rick against each other then looks disturbed when it finally plays out the way it did. I was glad to see Rick sort of just lay the truth out there instead of hold it in like he's prone to do. Can't wait for the next season...

I have nothing against T-Dog either, its just that they needed to use him more. Everyone had their own episode except him, the first episode of the season was good but then that was it. They basically put him in the background and that's it:(. Who knew all he wanted to do is head East?? Also it did pissed me off about Lori, but it wasn't because of Rick doing that but more because of Carl. She said before that Carl was changing and getting more of a "Cold" attitude. I think that's why she got pissed.

At first sight, I really was excited about the "Screwed Walker" limited head edition. But now it looks sort of cheap to me, in terms of quality-wise.

Oh and I also hope, as ocielz said, they won't release the second season twice.

Robert Kirkman officially announced on Talking Dead that they cast Danai Gurira as Michonne for season 3.

Agreed. Lori is the only one left that bugs the hell out of me.

^^^ pure badassery:D just like in the comics, still wishing they bring in Tyreese

I have not really read much further in the comics than where they are in the show. And even that, i just skimmed through them for work. If you're that excited for Tyreese, he must be an awesome character. I'm still debating on reading further - not sure if it will ruin the surprises of the show for me or not.:dunno:
