I completely agree. It's more the addictive nature of nostalgia that pulls me back to some of Van Dammes movies. Let's face it, it's not because they're deep. The entertainment is purely nostalgic for me with the likes of TimeCop, A.W.O.L (Lionheart), Kickboxer, Hard Target, Nowhere to Run and Universal Soldier all being movies my mum & sister would rent me from the local VHS store when I was off school ill.
Twas even before the days of Blockbuster in the UK. In fact, my local rental shop still had Betamax tapes on their shelf until well into the 90s.

Same goes with those late 80s Jackie Chan action movies. Schlocky but fun.
I re watched Bloodsport a while ago and it was unintentionally hilarious in some parts. That's not held up terribly well against some of the others.
