I like that and I still don’t own the steel
How much are OABs usually?
Will probably be $130 with shipping.
£100ish. Kev prices these single steel OABs at $135.
I’m so tempted but £105!!! Man I can’t pay that for it. Fukin crazy prices these OABsthis is live for VIP's on the other site.

I've just put my order in.I’m so tempted but £105!!! Man I can’t pay that for it. Fukin crazy prices these OABs

It's mad really, discounting the RRP of the steelbook/disc, you're paying above £70 for an outer slip, an inner slip and some other bits of card and paper.
Look, I'm not knocking them - some of the designs are awesome and the quality is way up there - but that's such a large amount for what is essentially just the materials, ink, print, labour and manufacturing.
They do tend to exponentially increase their value pretty fast and fairly consistently across all the titles.
So there's that. If that's your thing. To some it is. For me. I'd only buy a title I really really care for. All the deep pockets buy them up though
It’s a shame because if say Manta release this, you’ll get all that art divided between 3 sets and a OC so it’s cool to get all this artwork on 1 edition. I just can’t pay £105 for it. Don’t feel right to me. And yeah if I'm buying it I'm buying it for me.Yup. It's a lot of wonga for what is essentially a WWA![]()

With the way things are going they'll be cheaper than the collector's editions the studios release...Yup. It's a lot of wonga for what is essentially a WWA![]()
That's probably true, take a look at The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth collector edition sets that come out next month, they're 70 quid each!!With the way things are going they'll be cheaper than the collector's editions the studios release...

Yeah, that's what happens when an anime company releases 'regular' movies – you get 'anime prices'.I think Labyrinth and Dark Crystal are £70 only because it's Alltheanime who picked up the license to release them. They've got previous for hiking up collector set prices.
They did it for Godzilla Minus One and for Perfect Blue. Both were over £65/70
Always way overpriced.

We got 'conditioned' into paying $30 per volume for at least 6 volumes in a season, then 65-80 for a boxset, if it's all in one.

This is just the first season, and it cost $330 in 2001 from ADV, another anime company releasing a 'regular' series, as an extreme example.![]()
Why are we comparing a TV show with 8-20+ episodes, hundreds of hours requiring a lot of discs versus a regular 2 hour film?Yeah, that's what happens when an anime company releases 'regular' movies – you get 'anime prices'.

I understand the comparative point you are trying to make, but as a side note, that's an absolutely nuts price for farscape dvdsYeah, that's what happens when an anime company releases 'regular' movies – you get 'anime prices'.

Oh yeah, I remember walking into Virgin in the UK in '96, and seeing literally aisles of rows of Star Trek TNG tapes, trying to count how much money I'd need to some day buy them all. Only got Fawlty Towers and almost all of Mr. Bean back then, thankfully.Bubblegum Crisis from AnimEigo was about £19-25 per VHS tape with 1 episode on it. All 8 of the original series cost close to £200 back in 1994.
Absolutely insane. For that sh*t quality and 50 minute episode.
Times change, I can remember buying each of the Farscape DVDs and they were like 3-4 episodes a release? The shows they make now don't even have enough episodes to do that unless it's something formulaic they churn out like CSI Miami Special Brew and certainly aren't good enough to warrant that level of expense. At some point I need to dig out the Farscape deluxe sets I got, sold the DVDs but kept all the tat, makes the slip case and poster collector sets they put out now look very weak sauce.Oh yeah, I remember walking into Virgin in the UK in '96, and seeing literally aisles of rows of Star Trek TNG tapes, trying to count how much money I'd need to some day buy them all. On the other hand I appreciate better packaging, more separate than all stacked in one case now, because otherwise it's not far from a file folder on a hard drive, is it.
Have to often hunt down initial digipacks or slim case fullslip releases of seasons. So the studios went from extremely expensive and unreasonable, to very cheap and barely functional.
I guess my point is whenever one thinks something is too expensive, they have to consider what they're paying for, a proper physical and visual representation, or not, and whether it's worth it. Plus things were always more expensive and harder to collect before. Especially if we go to $100 laserdiscs, or $300 Super8 film reels.
