I'm actually sick of everything having to be embossed / debossed. It is appropriate for some designs but when embossed boarders are crossing over important artwork it is not necessary. I'll take a good finish (and I'm not talking just gloss) on a nice unembossed steelbook over a poorly embossed one any day.

Agree 100%! Embossing may be a plus for some titles, but the majority of the time the border significantly detracts from the end result. My best steelbooks are unembossed, glossy, quality finish (the new Riddick is a perfect example). Very disappointed with the border on Finding Nemo, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin. An instance where the border actually enhances the art is on Black Swan - it makes it look almost like a movie poster.

I know the border is a side-effect of the press which is used to emboss the metal but what's so different about the deboss press and why don't they use the same method but in reverse as to avoid borders?

imagine a debossed steelbook inside out...
you have an embossed steelbook without a border...
why cant they just do that?

I like the art work on the Steelbook, as long as it will be glossed. Cinderella is getting released same day as Bambi, but Cinderella hasn't gone up for sale yet & now Bambi has disappeared from the site! So are they pushing back the release date's or is Cinderella going on sale soon?
