Gauging Interest for HDN Group Buys

Pole to gauge possible Interest in HDN Group Buys for Manta Lab and/or WeET, hosted by myself, if @Wreck is amenable.

I am UK based, but the GBs would be open to HDN members worldwide, as they were with my Astro Creations Annihilation GB. TBD whether shipping would be retailer direct, or via a hub.

My preference would be for international orders at least to be shipped direct, if the retailers are willing. If not, I do potentially have hub contacts in CN/SK and EU, which may be an option for non-UK orders (also TBD, will need to discuss with them).

No guarantees or promises. This is purely to gauge interest so that I know if an allocation would be a worthwhile endeavour.

Reading and typing quickly, this being the internet and having a thread constantly updated with someone calling me a "f*cking stupid", "full of bullsh*t" and a "lazy ******", you can see where the waters start to become unnecessarily muddled.

By the way I’ve always found GBs where you can order direct lazy and the people to use them either lazy or greedy. Greed of course because they can order on the day.

Are you sure of this? How many times I „summoned” Andy (@apsmith21) for a GB? I think I merely said „please” and was just few times (maximum 10 I believe)... and does that make me positive that I ask (politely) to Andy for a GB or am I positive just when he say „yes”?
Do you care (no, I know you don't) how many times I've asked for a GB or tried to join one and could not get a copy for various reasons? Does that make me negative (inverse than your positive)?

I agree there's absolutely no need for GBs when the option to order direct is available. However, since so many GBs do already exist, making it the only option for some of us (myself included) to secure copies, then one more isn't going to make much difference. So that said, I'm all for it! Couldn't think of a better person than @samdavies to be a host either

God, I stupidly almost bought off that site a few times until you lot opened my eyes and told me the who and the why.

sometimes you cant order direct... stressful day at work or you are driving home... i know some of you guys order on phone while driving 120+ on the highway
without gbs i'd missed 90% of all releases. so yeah, we need gbs.

Same situation here... unfortunately we don't all have the luxury of fast internet or having access to it at all times etc. Even with GBs I still miss roughly 10% of releases, but that's nothing compared to the 90% I'd miss without them.

Sure things have gotten bad with GBs but I don't see them going away, so at a minimum like I've said before I think they should guarantee a specific number for direct purchase and the GBs get to carve up what's left, it would at least give a little clarity for collectors.

I still can't see this all as anything other than a supply and demand problem, if there's so many more collectors grabbing everything there's no system going to fix it beyond increasing supply but I feel like we're at a fairly healthy level for most releases but those same numbers do NOT work for massive films like Interstellar, Raimi's Spider-man etc. Using similar production numbers for each film regardless of how popular it actually is, is a mistake.

This is the exact argument I was saying right at the beginning of this thread. Demand has gone up across the board. It seems the number of physical collectors has increased hugely since 2020 with expensive, woefully inconsistent streaming quality and inherently underdeveloped internet infrastructure across regions pushing people back into collecting. A portion of them will no doubt step into serious collecting. Kind of inevitable. The balance isn't there anymore and it's not really about "fairness" or "equality", it's a lack of regulated numbers, correctly proportional to the demand for the film and proportional to both direct orders and for GBs.
To be honest, when I first heard that Group buys existed, I thought that they were a separate fixed allocation, organised and sold outside of the number produced for direct regional and international site sales. There's no way they shouldn't be, it makes perfect sense, when in reality I was somewhat shocked to learn otherwise.
I get the hate for them and as I said right at the beginning of the thread, the companies should be actively trying to accommodate the change in the community demand. It's unbalanced right now and getting more and more difficult to buy direct. It's an abomination to be frank but It's a more nuanced picture than the websites are rubbish, that retail purchase bots scoop everything up or that GBs are bad. It's all of those and more.

It just feels to me like a change or review of how these items are made available needs to happen. A small increase in numbers isn't going to change that limited collectable status from where it already stands.

Well maybe start getting angry with the GBs because they are the reason you are unable to order direct.

"LAZY" is a bit harsh... WeET goes live 5am UK time which can clash with those on shift work and the number of midday Manta's I've missed because work meetings have overrun (Kill Bill being my latest miss)...

I do try and buy direct but not wanting work/life to get in the way has got nothing to do with being lazy.
