Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)

Going to be a bloodbath for any collector editions. I'm hoping any potential deluxe edition won't have early access as I think it'll put an end to the idea of midnight releases for this title but we'll see. This is the one occasion I actually want to pick up a game at midnight lol.

No disc is really, really ******. So bad that I really don't want to support it but I know I can't do that. A game of this magnitude doing this and still destroying sales/income records will likely move the industry towards its digital only future even quicker unfortunately.

I'm 50/50 with Digital/Physical purchases. Usually the cheaper end will be digital though so this will be probably in the 10% of Full Price AAA digital games I've bought over the last 5-8 years. I'd prefer a physical so I can lend it to my Son and Daughter when I'm not playing or have finished it (both not 18 but close enough). This is my main bugbear really with having it Digital only at launch.
This isn't really news, just confirmation; it was rumoured months ago that Rockstar and T2 didn't want the game leaking out before launch.

Still. It's not going to stop me playing day one and I don't think many shouting "NO, not buying" will have the stones to resist tbh.

I still don't buy the potential leaks as a good enough reason for the decision. I don't like it either but games like Crimson Desert and Lego Batman had a time lock so you couldn't access it until a specific time on release day and that worked, so there's no reason why they couldn't have done that. I think this is all about having greater control over pricing for it, especially given this is only going to be on two storefronts for the foreseeable.

It's Rockstar flexing their influence over the industry; if they say no more discs going forward more studios will follow suit and a few months later paper slips inside a box will be industry standard.

Crimson Desert had a 50-60% digital download. There was just less than half the data information on the physical discs. For all that gives you, isn't that just a digital game in everything but name?

How is that any better. You still have to dload more than half the game.

It's not much better but at least it's something. It needed the initial authentication but I think after that that was all that was necessary. Still a step in the wrong direction but at least it gave users some sense of control. I'm not sure if Batman was better. I just don't like the justification. There are other ways to avoid leaks, I just don't believe this is the reason Rockstar are doing this.

I’m quite happy the no disc thing is getting a lot of heat online and some retailers are boycotting it. I think that’s absolutely boll0cks and to then hide certain shops and custom garages behind a paywall for the more expensive version. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted the ultimate deluxe whatever but there’s things on there that will be locked just to that edition that I don’t agree with

I was really hoping on a big old collectors edition too with a physical copy and steelbook. But I’ve seen the New Zealand pre order page and it’s literally just the 2 editions

no disc = i dont buy it

alan wake 2 got a physical release 1 or 2 year(s) later. maybe gta 6 will get a full physical release one day, too.

I was really looking forward to today/night and seeing the editions but if it’s only digital there is zero point rushing to buy it now. F**k them. I’ll buy it the week it comes out. I do think Rockstar and Take Two should be ashamed of themselves because with zero disc it isn’t a secrecy thing to protect the game. It’s so no one can resell and everyone at anytime in any year has to purchase directly. It’s all about money. It’s not like they ain’t going to make their supposed $2 billion back times whatever. Scummy really

Price don’t actually bother me. We’ve been aware for a while it would be higher. And tbh the base game isn’t much higher than the normal price nowadays anyway but what I don’t want is other studios to look at this, start charging more for shittier games and trying to get away with some of the stuff Rockstar seem to be getting away with for GTA

Personally I think they were not expecting the reaction online to discless. And as much as I can’t wait to play this, their marketing this week for it has not gone as they expected. Not that it needs much marketing. Probably the only game in history that needs minimal marketing. But it’s kinda backfired on them today imo.

More people support physical media now more than ever. You won’t actually own this game. That’s what scary. Just the license to play it

few single-player missions and other content are locked in the standard edition, so if you want access to the full game, you need to buy the ultimate edition.

Yeah no way I'm dropping £100 on a license. Give me the disc in a fat collectors edition for double but forget supporting digital only games.

Lol so dumb. Buy a standard and then from 12th when you start to install you can purchase the ultimate to add on lol. So rêtarded. I refuse to believe there isn’t a collectors edition coming with physical items
