Awful isn't it? LW4 is hilarious - more space given to the actors names than the title of the movie!

Actually, the first three films had all-German theatrical titles, which also were not really connected as a series at all.

Part 1: "Zwei stahlharte Profis" (two steel-hard professionals)
Part 2: "Brennpunkt L.A." (focus point L.A.)
Part 3: "Brennpunkt L.A. - die Profis sind zurück" (focus point L.A. - the professionals are back)
Later, on video, they got renamed to "Lethal Weapon", "Lethal Weapon 2" and "Lethal Weapon 3" respectively, with the old theatrical titles added as taglines.

Only Part 4 was actually released as "Lethal Weapon 4" theatrically, with the tagline "two professionals clean up".
