With all of the announcements of upcoming movies being planned for 3D over the next few years, one would expect that whether or not an upcoming tentpole movie will be in 3D is going to replace the "PG-13 vs. R" question that most filmmakers tend to get. The latest movie that seems to be going that route is Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox's planned Alien Prequel.

UK sci-fi site Shadow Locked had a chance to talk with art director Roger Christian who worked on Star Wars and Alien, and they asked him about the direction Scott might take with a prequel, the two of them having worked together on the original movie. Besides dropping the fact that it will be shot in 3D, he hinted at a possible trilogy in the franchise's future.

He told them: "Ridley's doing the next Alien in 3D. Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there's ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I'm hoping he'll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it - everybody."

Christian met with Scott, but hasn't confirmed that he might be involved with the new prequel, reuniting the duo for the first time in over 30 years.

Tickets booked for Friday 1st June but only in 3D unfortunately, have to wait till I get home to see it on IMAX. Public promise; no spoilers in PM's to DB. :ohno:

Also disappointed release of book has been put back till August. :(

Yea I got an email too (from Amazon), I was looking on the website the other day when I noticed the date had changed, but was hoping that was just for new orders, and then I got the email :(!

Interestingly though, the release date on the publisher's site still says 8th June?

I watched this last night, I must say I was a bit disappointed with it :(

I really like the Alien franchise but I don't know what to think of this.

Just got back from it

Well......... unsure what I think in all honesty! I liked it, but there was something missing.

Very well made, superb cast and the 3D was brilliant. There was just something missing that I can't put my finger on

It's certainly not crap, far from it. I don't know if I was expecting something different or if it's just missing that 'something'

I think everyone is expecting an Alien prequel (because the trailers point to it)

it's not a prequel. it's a totally different story set in the same universe.

The more i distant the film from the Alien franchise, the better it appears. it's not a film i could judge as soon asthe credits rolled. my wife and I had to sleep on it and discuss it the following day

Well i enjoyed it!

I read that originally Ridley Scott and his team sought to distance himself from this being an Alien prequel, a unique movie that stands on its own, but in the same universe.

And as a standalone movie, it was thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi!.

Suspenseful throughout, cinematography was excellent, i loved the opening scenes.

It's on such a scale, it truly is a cinema movie, the bigger the screen the better.

At 2 hours it was well worth it, i was not checking the time at any stage. It's different from Avengers, i can't say it will be everybody's cup of tea, but enjoyable nonetheless...

It won't in my opinion be on a level of Avengers or Dark Knight Rises, these are different kinds of movies, but i reckon this would do well and will look forward a sequel if it proves successful...
