Guess Milla can't quit Hollywood afterall, unless they choose another actress. But it sounds like she'll be involved?

Can someone more familiar with the franchise, help me by the way? I thought "Afterlife" was # 5? Or did the animated one not count?:)

Per Comingsoon:

"
With an opening of $73.2 million worldwide in just three days for Resident Evil: Afterlife, it's no surprise that Screen Gems would want to continue the franchise. Vulture caught up with star Milla Jovovich this weekend who said that's exactly the plan.

"This new 'Resident Evil' is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise," she said. "So we're definitely going to make another one."

Jovovich added that director Paul W.S. Anderson, her husband, already has some ideas for the fifth installment and they are looking for ideas from the fans as well this time.

"We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process."

Afterlife is the 4th, people never counted the animated film as number 4 as it has nothing to do with the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies

I got to check out 3 before I go and see Afterlife. I am not surprised it made #1 as there aren't any good movies in the theaters at the moment.

Horhay they plan to communicate with fans-presumably via Social network site (I think it mentions it in the original article I posted), as they're developing the story.

Milla Returns For Resident Evil 5

Milla Jovovich is returning for a fifth installment of Resident Evil and the actress has confirmed that they will shoot the film in Tokyo.

She wrote on her Twitter:

"I love Tokyo! 1 of my favorite cities in the world! We're gonna come film some scenes 4 the nxt RE (Resident Evil) in Tokyo!!!"

"I pray 4 Japan everyday and I can't wait 2 go there and shoot the nxt RE!"

Last year's Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D debuted at No.1 at the box office so it's no surprise the studio is planning to make another RE film.

Per Den of Geek:

The new Resident Evil movie appears to have a title, and looks like it’s shooting in Japan, according to Milla Jovovich…

Given that Resident Evil: Afterlife managed to eat up nearly $300m at the worldwide box office, it's a surprise to nobody that a fifth film in the cinematic franchise is in the works. Milla Jovovich will be returning to play Alice again, although it's unlikely that Paul W S Anderson will be directing this time around. He is still heavily involved with the franchise, though.

Jovovich, meanwhile, has been spilling a few details about the film over on her Twitter feed. She revealed that the title is looking like Resident Evil: Retribution ("but i have to ask paul 2 b sure""). She also said that the new film is likely to shoot in Japan.

The new film is due out on September 14th 2012.

Per First Showing:

Back in August it was confirmed that director Paul W.S. Anderson would again be working with his wife and frequent collaborator Milla Jovovich for Resident Evil: Retribution, yet another sequel in the video game franchise. At the time it was said Jill Valentine would be brought back in some capacity, and despite previous reports, Sienna Guillory will be reprising the role. Now Bloody Disgusting has word on another returning character with Michelle Rodriguez coming back as Rain Ocampo. Fans will remember that the character met her end after being turned into a zombie and subsequently killed, so what's the deal?

Well, it sounds like the film will be employing some flashbacks to come full circle with a bit of Alice's (Jovovich) backstory. This makes sense considering Shawn Roberts is also expected to have a cameo as Albert Wesker. Either way, the returning cast will also be joined by Barry Burton, a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) and Leon Scott Kennedy, a U.S. Government agent, and previously an officer for the Raccoon City Police Department. Filming will take place in Toronto, Japan and Russia and Screen Gems is bring the movie to theaters on September 14th, 2012.
