Sounds like they finally understood that music is half the success, especially in Tron, and what I'm hearing in this trailer is awesome.
NiN also stopped making some ambient noise stuff they did for other movies, maybe they were holding back, but for Tron you need more bold and powerful sound!
I just don't quite understand how the computer 'rules' suddenly function in the real world...
Don’t like the idea of it being in the real world but it does look awesome
Love Trent and Atticus when they score films. Interesting to see them making musing as NIN for the film. The Daft Punk score and soundtrack was too good in legacy
Just saw this. I watched the other 2 to prepare for it this week and I must say that I'm really disappointed by this new one.
It had real potential and some cool ideas but there are so many missteps here. First of all it's boring as hell. Secondly it becomes clear after 10 minutes that this film is absolute schlock, and not of the good kind. There is one character in here that straight up feels like a side character from a 90s Roland Emmerich film: the annoying guy who always says dumb **** for no reason and is supposed to be the comic relief of the film but not a single joke lands. I really didn't expect to see a character like that written in 2025.
This film also weirdly feels like the last remnants of Disney's "girl boss era", which makes sense because it went through development hell during the high point of that particular hollywood moment. This story could have been told with the characters/actors from Tron and Tron: Legacy (which would have made more sense) but it's painfully obvious that Disney wanted to go the "diverse", "girl-bossey" route here, which especially in this story - with it's history in the other two films - felt completely out of place and artificially tacked on.
Plus - and this is not a spoiler - the film seems to work towards at least one sequel with a mid-credit scene. This aspect and the point before both showcase that this film feels kind of out of place and like it belongs into 2018 or something, which would have been when then film would have come out without it's development problems.
The biggest suprise was that the soundtrack is also underwhelming. I thought Nine Inch Nails would be putting a front-to-back head exploding score to this (which also was suggested in the teasers) but there is really only two or three moments where the soundtrack REALLY delivers, and those songs/musical motives were in the trailers.
I don't know. I get why Tron: Legacy got a cult following years after it's release like the original. This is certainly not gonna happen with this new one - there is nothing really visually stunning or original about it, the characters are lame, the dialogue and story are trite, the soundtrack is mid-tier. There is nothing that makes it worth re-watching as a cult fanbase in my opinion. A real shame given it's immense potential.
I finally got to see this, and it makes me sad that with its low box office numbers that we will probably never see another Tron movie.
I personally am a HUGE fan of Legacy and have wanted a sequel for years... But this isn't the sequel that I wanted.
I do want to say that I did actually enjoy the movie. There were some really cool scenes and ideas that kept me very entertained, but I'm going to have to go into spoiler territory so full review below:
Lets be honest, Anyone who was a fan of Tron wanted to see Sam and Quorra again. And I know they are teasing them for the NEXT instalment, but that's sadly never happening now.
Not including them / not making the story around them was a huge mistake and probably why nobody went to see this.
The next big mistake is casting. I personally am not a Jared Leto hater. I even like 30 Seconds to Mars! ...But him and Greta Lee had zero chemistry. The film needed to slow down for a moment or two and give them some scenes to connect and establish a relationship, but we never get that.
The supporting characters also are not great. Evan Peters is alright as the villain, but I still wanted more out of his character.
Next up. This is a question for the person who wrote the script... Do you know who Tron is? Because a movie called Tron, you'd think Tron might be in it? Just a suggestion.
The music is also not nearly as good. And I know Trent Reznor is capable of making some of the best soundtracks ever for movies, but this isn't one of them sadly.
OK, now that I've gotten all that off my chest. Lets talk about the positives because there are a lot actually.
Like its predecessor the visuals in this are fantastic and thats why you go to see movies like this. Watching it in IMAX was a treat. It was so rad seeing light cycles on actual roads. And for me, since they shot everything here in Vancouver, they are roads that I drive on all the time. Which made it extra special for me.
The scenes in the grid are top notch as well. The chase scene along the "water" was very cool. And the Light Staff weapons looked amazing.
Bottom line I'm still going to recommend this movie for the visuals alone. Go in FOR THAT and I think you'll enjoy it. If you're hoping for great characters and a compelling story... you're not getting it this time around.

Disney just can't win. After hearing for years that "the only good thing about Legacy is the soundtrack" and "the characters are so boring, I don't care about any of them," they continue the series with new characters in a music-forward movie, and now everyone says, "Nobody asked for this! Where are Sam and Quorra??" I'm a huge fan of the first two films, and I went into Ares assuming I wouldn't like it at all. But it surprised me—clearly the weakest of the films, but still a ton of fun. It needs a fourth film to complete the story of the series, but it sets some things up in an intriguing way.

That's not true at all. Go back and read this thread. There was nothing but love the characters of legacy.
The only criticism anyone had on here (and this started 5 years ago when it was announced) was Disney not continuing the story and going with Leto instead.
