Hey all,

Use this thread to chat about all things steelbook. Chat away ...

In an undetermined amount of time (when I need to submit GB addresses) I will then conduct the giveaway via random.org using the Post #s in this thread.

Your entries could be 1 (if you post 1 time) or 100 if you post 100 times.

At that time, I will figure out who wins the free DL TDK Blufans Edition. If you already bought the DL, you will get yours for free as I will refund you. ;)

I will host the giveaway LIVE on my IG by rolling the virtual dice first, if it lands on 5 then I will randomize the numbers 5 times and whatever # it lands on that post count # is the winner.

You mean this box?

Who collects/watches DVD's any more? Even cable TV is HD now...
I stopped buying DVDs for a while but now I buy them as a convenient way to watch a random movies cheap. I like 4k stuff but the quality difference doesn't bother me as much as it used to. A movie is a movie.

Something like this for 'The Expanse' would be my most desired series, probably won't ever get a physical release. The art choices would be insane
Yeah, would be great in such packaging, but all the seasons were released individually, but the last one, on Blu-ray.

This is a whole can of worms you're opening, but I guess you did that intentionally.
First of all, I know it's not steelbooks, but a few [thousand] pages ago, conversation was steered away about best editions in the collection, as not being steelbooks at all, with which I agreed, never putting them first.

Secondly, these TV series are not, or were not available on Blu-ray.
Highlander was being released later upscaled, but the company stopped after 2 or 3 seasons. Stargate Atlantis I rebought on BD a while ago, and Stargate Universe came out on Blu-ray right away, but SG-1 only recently was upscaled, released in horrible packaging, and I didn't bother upgrading it yet.
I do agree with not watching something in worse quality, than available, which is why I can barely buy any new shows, because most of them are not released on BD at all. Some only on DVD, but, paraphrasing Rory Breaker from Lock Stock, I'm not the kind of 'poossee' to buy it, when it was broadcast or streamed in better quality. That's why I have over 30 external hard drives full of illegal pirate copies/rips.
Also, sometimes studios start releasing a series, I buy seasons, like a 'goo' lil'l booay' as they come out, only to get ditched midway, like with Ray Donovan, or at the end, like with 4th season of The Strain, 7th of Strike Back, 7th of Homeland. So those hard drives are a proper part of the collection. First season gets a whole monster 'head' limited release, as with The Strain, last is a bunch of files on HDD...

And some I even re-download in HD, as 720p, even though have them on DVD, like first 3 seasons of CSI NY, first 5 of CSI Miami, and first 7 of CSI [Las Vegas]. Don't know what to do with them now, keep for a few featurettes, or sell for $5... Good it's a secondary series I don't care much about.
Some I bought on Blu-ray, even though 'digital copies' were in UHD, because the shows are too good, like Snowpiercer and Yellowstone. I support such things, not a complete [forced] pirate/thief/criminal.

A bit explaining on why they're from all over the place - US, Australia, UK - and why the first disc of season 2 is a 'Volume 2':
First season was not released in its entirety for many years, there was only a 'best of' disc with 4 episodes, labeled as Volume 1. This was year 2000, when complete season sets weren't a practice yet. So, when they started releasing episodes in order and complete, starting with season 2, first of the 6 discs was Volume 2, and that continued until Volume 54 of the last disc of season 10.
Even with various sales, these cost about £15 each in UK, but were cheaper in Australia, where I started buying them.
First season came out later, in 2002, as a complete box, though still with all individual amarays, but about 2 years earlier in US, than everywhere else, thus it's a R1.

More and more special features were being added to these 'volumes', like Timeline to the Future, which would only appear in US in that 54 disc Complete Series box.

This is going for a while, so rest under spoiler.

Later they started boxing them, after all volumes came out individually, so I started waiting, till the whole season was out.

Looks like Farscape by this point. Speaking of which, I got more of it, than Stargate... nah, another time.

P.S. I remembered watching this comparison, when the upscaled SG-1 came out, and not seeing much difference, and disliking the red faces, decided not to buy it.

I think people are forgetting, that DVDs are not that bad, plenty watchable - they're not VHS.

i picked up clerks 2 DVD just for the extras.
and some David Simon series that weren't/aren't available on Blu Ray.
also futurama and animaniacs.

pretty sure the only dvds I've bought in the last 20 years.

i guess i should also say how sweet and pretty wreck is; but that would be really pathetic for me to say those things

good luck everybody!
