We're excited to announce our upcoming Steelbook project featuring artwork by the very talented illustrator, Karl Fitzgerald. We believe many collectors have seen his artwork online such as "Blade Runner", "Kill Bill" and others. We've always admired his work and style and we are very happy to work with him on our next project.
For our latest project, Karl has created an "American Psycho" Steelbook illustration paying homage to the original book cover. We're truly impressed by how he's captured the essence of the film in his unique way.

That doesn't actually surprise me. I'd expect it was someone in the US, reporting it to WB US. WB US are going to have no idea about distribution agreements in place in HK. Exactly the same as Disney US had no idea about the HK WandaVision release.

and idk how import service functions regarding intellectual property like movie rights... i do recall many discs and editions statings things like only for sale within eu or whatever

it might be a different story for a groupbuy where the item is directly shipped from manta to the customer, but iirc he ships those item from the uk? at least parts of them too

I think It's all a grey area tbh. One that studios don't care about unless it's big business, which is the reason why storefronts like HMV wouldn't do it. Import services for music and film have been in business since the dawn of home media, so it's evidently "allowed" to happen, to a certain extent anyway.

Perhaps it’s for the best in the long run, they have been releasing title that are sub-par at best, - superhero movies and franchises that nobody is interested in anymore. And despite a couple of interesting releases (Leon and American Psycho) they have not really been the same as they once were.

Lines like this make it very hard to feel sympathetic for the host. Comes across as very childish in a 'well I didn't like you anyway' kind of way. But then the host has a reputation for that kind of behaviour anyway so not surprised. It's just not a professional look at all.

I'd expect it's the fact that they don't have agreements with the UK studios which allows this to happen. If they did, they'd be regulated to some extent, and selling non BBFC approved media in their stores would put their contracts in jeopardy.

Why are we framing selling perfectly valid and legal imports as if they're somehow unlawful?

The only issue for a business here is if you're also a customer of that manufacturer, e.g. Nintendo can threaten to stop supplying you if you want to sell imports (as they did to CEX back in the 00's) but if they're not buying direct why should they care?
