Battlefield 3
is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you'll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch.

Battlefield 3 will release this Fall.

The new GameInformer issue is out and folks have already provided scans of the article, which include plenty of great-looking screenshots. Furthermore, these details were obtained from the article:

Aiming for Fall 2011 release

4 classes

Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together

Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written

Lighting sounds neat, one “probe” contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.

Level destruction is going to be “believable” but basically everything is destructible.

Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.

AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets

No more “gliding” animations that look off, animation realism is a focus

Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism

Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats

Plan on better, more immediate post release content

More unlocks than Bad Company 2

Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having “pink rabbit hat(s)”

Will have co-op

There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off

BF3′s team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2

They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.

Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah (Iraqi Kurdistan).

Will be M rated

PC version is lead version

No mod tools at release.

Reactions: Wreck
I dunno man, the difference is their games arent "Arcade-y" and their graphics engine already looks awesome as well as their destruction engine. I see them being wayyyy more successful releasing every year as opposed to COD in terms of quality.

Quality over quantity wreck, BF isn't Bad Company.....Took them years before releasing BF2 and with good reason. BF3 took them years too, might as well do it right and not rush it. They can release Bad Company yearly no biggie, leave BF alone! no yearly crap!

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition UK Pre-Orders Promising More Goodies With the 'Physical Warfare Pack'

If you're in the UK and considering putting your pre-order in for Battlefield 3, then this might just be the clincher. Not only is EA offering the Limited Edition with the 'Back to Karkand' map pack, but now you can add the 'Physical Warfare Pack' to that too, as UK retailers GAME and Gamestation are exclusively offering bonus weapons as part of the deal. Not too shabby.

The Physical Warfare Pack bundles the following exclusive weapons with the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition:

Type 88 light machine gun with bipod - for superior firepower and total zone control
SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor - provides increased stealth abilities for Recon soldiers
DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun - Day one access to the highly versatile semi-automatic shotgun with lethal armour-piercing flechette ammo that is sure to tear through anything in its path

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition: Physical Warfare Pack is available to pre-order now exclusively from both GAME.co.uk and Gamestation.co.uk. Battlefield 3 is out in autumn 2011.

Explosive New Battlefield 3 Footage

EA has released some new footage of Battlefield 3, along with some behind the scenes action at DICE's Swedish studio. The upcoming FPS still looks damn impressive.

In the vid there's also interviews with some key members of the development team, including the game's creative director, Lars Gustavsson, who looks back over the series' long history. Plus you can watch a pretty blonde girl shoot a gun, if that's your thing.

In other Battlefield 3 news, EA also released some concept art today. The two pieces are of the Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula maps, both re-mastered from earlier games and both part of the Back to Karkand DLC. You can check it all out below.

Battlefield will overtake Call of Duty commercially, says EA

Electronic Arts reckons the time is ripe for the publishing powerhouse to reclaim market share in the first-person shooter space with the release of Battlefield 3 this fall.

Speaking to MCV, the industry giant boasted that its hotly-anticipated military shooter is a flat-out superior product than leading rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and feels it’s only a matter of time before Battlefield supplants the Activision behemoth from a commercial standpoint.

"Certainly. The only question is when that day will be," said EA’s European senior vice president, Jens Uwe Intat. "And for me, the sooner the better.”

"With Battlefield 3 we have a superior games engine and a top notch product. We are convinced that we will, in fact, have a better product than our key competitor in the space. We think this is the perfect year to gain back market share,” he continued.

However, Activision also chipped in on the subject, with the firm’s Eric Hirshberg observing that EA’s continuous trumpeting of Battlefield 3 will only help to build public awareness of Modern Warfare 3.

Angry About Battlefield 3 Pre-Order Perks? DICE Answer Your Questions

Apparently, some people have been getting a little bit upset about the pre-order only bonuses available for Battlefield 3, with the 'Back to Karkand' and 'Physical Warfare Pack' offering exclusive maps and weapons respectively, while the latter has only currently been confirmed in the UK, much to the chagrin of Battlefield fans around the world.

Well you can breathe easy, as DICE has taken your concerns into consideration and answered all of your burning BF3 pre-order questions on its Battlefield Blog, first confirming that the Physical Warfare Pack won't be restricted to UK retailers and that "exact details for other countries and retailers will be announced at a later date" and "select retailers all over the world will carry the Physical Warfare Pack. Exact details for other countries and retailers will be announced at a later date."

If you're still concerned that the three weapons bundled with the Physical Warfare Pack will offer players an unfair advantage on Battlefield 3's battlefield, you can also rest assured that this won't be the case. "Owning these items will give you a more varied arsenal, but it will not give you a significant advantage on the battlefield," reads the blog post. "The three exclusive items in the Physical Warfare Pack were specifically chosen not to be overpowered or imbalance or break the game in any way."

What's more, if you fail to pre-order Battlefield 3, you won't get the Back to Karkand map pack free of charge, but you will still be able to purchase it post-release, so you won't necessarily be missing out on multiplayer maps. "You can also buy it separately if you do not pre-order Battlefield 3. Back to Karkand will be available the exact same date after the launch of Battlefield 3 no matter if you pre-ordered or buy it separately."

No price or exact date has yet been confirmed for the Back to Karkand map pack, but we can't imagine it will break the bank too much. Battlefield 3 will be deployed on October 25th, 2011.

It's the same thing as bfbc 2 limited edition. You get a code inside for free maps that other people would otherwise pay for if they bought the game later/used.

I wanted to buy used from Gamestop for $55 bucks!!! LOL I preordered on Amazon just in case though.

I wonder if it TRULY is the same for BFBC2 tho ... cause you didnt have to pre-order for BFBC2 just had to buy at release as those had codes in them too. They had 3 diff retail ready versions ... The regular edition ( no code) the Limited editon (code inside) same price as regular and then later on the Ultimate Edition all map packs included.

Yeah, you didn't have to TRULY pre order. Could have just bought the game at release. Same went for moh. They push the pre order to get maps thing cause they want people to preorder the game. The 2nd pre order incentive its talking about is what will be explained later. Most likely all the major carriers will offer it as a code if you pre order and get the code after or something. This isn't new news.....from EA to other manufacturers......

yeah, and technically I've heard of many people getting codes for free later on with BFBC2 and MOH. They called the technical support # in the manual of the game and just said their code didnt work and they issued them a new code.

sly.
