15:17 Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner COVENTRY PARCELFORCE UNITED KINGDOM

:(
Snap then, he's probably waiting to see if there are any more coming but it'll be interesting to see if we both get charged the same seeing as they're at the same depot.

Both. Think it came to under £34 for both when I googled the conversion on 24/9.

Just checked now and 4,500 JY is roughly £36.

So worst case scenario is £8.45 including £1.25 admin fee.

Thanks. That doesn't sound too bad. Well worth it considering the quality of these steelbooks & overall it's cheaper than buying them off ebay.

Wow, that's a really good price for those! Congrats! :scat:

Can you let us know what you get charged please Nick?

Well, I just got my invoice today & it's a little more than we all thought as it came to an eyewatering £23.17 EEK!.

Can't say that I'm too chuffed about that tbh so I don't think I'll be ordering much from Japan in the future.

Ouch :( HMRC got out of bed the wrong side then.
Any breakdown of why or just "pay up or else"?

Import VAT £9.67

Clearance Fee £13.50

It's almost double than I expected (in an earlier post I predicted it would be around £12) so it's a bit of a shock but what choice have I got ?.

It's either pay up or no Blade steels I guess :(

It's the clearance fee that does it, VAT is about as expected but £13.50 is steep. :(
Still, if these are the only steels I ever order direct from Japan then I'll still be pleased with them too ;)

I've just been reading the HMRC blurb -
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/customs-procedures.htm
Royal Mail/ Parcelforce pay the tax on our behalf and then we get the letter saying how much we owe including their extortionate fee for being so kind I suspect.

And there it is -

I don't get why the clearance fee is so either as I remember someone saying it would be around £1.25.

Anyone know why it's so high ?.
