I have to admit, I don't always understand why most of you are preferring gloss over matte finishes at almost every release. Gloss certainly looks nice in pictures, but it's a nightmare to handle. Fingerprints show easily and thus you have to handle the steelbook even more carefully. I'm also a subsriber to the theory that gloss finishes tend to show scratches and general wear more rapidly, although empirically that might not be verifiable. In general terms, though, a matte finish makes me feel much more comfortable touching a steelbook. Hence my preference for it.
Also, take into consideration the different types of matte finishes. If I had to choose between a poor WB-style matte and a regular glossy finish, I'd take the latter any day. However, there're steelbooks which feature a much better matte finish (e.g. No Country For Old Men), which I would wish for on more steelbook releases. In my personal opinion, the best choice would be spot gloss and (quality) matte finishes, and only resort to full gloss when it actually makes sense in combination with the artwork.
Then again, I'm German and might therefore have a distorted view on what is nice and desirable.

Kimchi It Follows Gloss Steelbooks were a NIGHTMARE ! They were Shrink Wrapped it appeared not all dry as when removing the Shrink wrap you could see the demarcation of the plastic wrap on the back art mostly... front Art had many little Scratches. I got 2 replacement steelbooks and same story they had put them on 2 mouse pad in a plastic bag and the pattern or the mouse pad was imprinted on the back gloss artwork and front art where the bag was touching it made marks. I also saw a member getting his replacement Steelbook wrapped up in bubble wrap and the whole steel back and front was covered in bubble imprinted in the pattern...
Buy this was the worse I have ever seen.
Although Kimchi WHIPLASH was Gloss and it was Flawless
so kinda nervous in receiving a Gloss white Steelbook but manta seem to have really High Quality Control.

The it follows was such a shame, it's easily one of my fav kimchi steels but the QC was just absent for that release. Also had 2 replacements and I never got the marks you mention (I see others did in the pics) but all mine had marks and hair line scratches all over. But like you say whiplash didn't, I don't get how hey f*cked up it follows so badly with the QC
another good example of how gloss and black works together is 47 Ronin, beautiful steel and mine has no marks what so ever. So the QC must of been top notch there.

I do agree some art works work better with matte or at least there are some beautiful steels with thick matte finishes but not many.
This could kinda work well matte but it has to be thick, non streaky matte.
But for me personally (and I have a thing for the colours used on this release) gloss will bring those colours out very well. Because the artwork is quite dark on the steel anyway I don't thick matte will compliment it better than gloss will
The Whiplash Kimchi steel was ABSOLUTELY mint!!! I can get lost staring at it for hours

Along with The WWA which felt Like Gold in Hands superb High Quality Finish
Those 2 Steels were absolutely High Quality and Flawless !
It doent elevates the look. When the complete Steelbook is glossy, you have nothing spot on. But with a matt finish or zero finish you could use spot gloss like on Black Haek Down.
And on some Steelbooks matt works stylistic better than gloss.

Its nothing ridiculous, because quality control works way better on matt finishes. 80% of all Steelbooks I buy with a gloss finish have scratches...
It's because light scratches are not discernible in matte or even zero finishes. I discovered this when I gloss my matte steelbooks. Small dents and light scratches become invisible on matte finishes.
All steels should be full gloss nuff said. Go buy a pair of silk reading gloves then you wont get prints on it simple!
So what you're saying is you'd settle for a subpar product just so the quality control and manufacturing process can be less problematic?
You could/should just buy the amaray on that basis alone. I thought we were all here because we are fans of not just the artwork on steelbooks but the steelbook it self.
