I need suggestions

...for a new amp. I think mine is about to hit the poop list so i'm taking suggestions. Lookin for lossless audio and at least 2 HDMI inputs. Can you set these newer amps up so all hdmi goes into it and one hdmi out to the TV? that would be the thing for me so i don't have to keep switching inputs on the TV. I was looking at the Onkyo 605 or 606 a while back and would love to get one but they run for 800 or so bucks here in canada. it's rediculous. would like to get something that bestbuy.ca or futureshop carries I guess. How are the Yamahas?

view these ... & read reviews ... Might be what your looking for ... what specs are you looking for in a new reciever besides the obvious of being able to decode all HD audio codecs.

Although buying something local with a warranty is a good idea too.

As long as the receiver says HDMI switching and not passthrough, then everything will go out of the one HDMI cable to the TV. I don't know what your budget is so the only real suggestion I can give now is don't get a Sony. I love Sony, but their audio products leave a bit to be desired.

That denon 7.1 I linked is NASTY! Only negative I saw is no ability for pre-amps outputs in the future ... I'd probably never need though.

I really dig the RX-V1800, it came down to that or the Onkyo 805 for me. I eventually got the 805 and I love it, but I think I would have been pretty happy with that Yamaha as well.

from what i am reading on AVS forum, the Yamaha's we ahead of their time a while ago but they are not now. I was thinking of the Yammy because last time I researched it was about a 1.5 years ago. My budget was around 500 bucks but i think I'd go as high as 1000 which is why i am now looking at the Onkyo. I didn't know our BB carried them. it must be new to them because they never had them before.

I really love my Onkyo, some people bash them becase they make a lot of entry level stuff but their higher end is nearly as nice as anything else out there.

If you do get an Onkyo, it is COMPLETELY worth it to spring for a more expensive model, one with the upgraded power supply (dual push-pull design and independent block construction). The 805 had it, but the 806 did not. For the 6 series, the 876 and up have it. If you want to get a new 7 series model, you will have to go all the way up the 1007, and that might be more dough than you want to spend.

If you have about $1000, I would try to look for a new 876 somewhere, hopefully you can find one of those bad boys.

Mac makes good points on the Onkyo, I can attest that you would not be disappointed in those higher end Onkyos.

I myself however lean on Harman Kardon

At $1000 you could be eyeing the AVR 3550HD: http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-AVR-3550HD-7x75-Watt/dp/B001EZ4EQ6

The only reason I bring this up is the one trump card HK has on all the other receivers on the market aside from the really high end elite's that'll be 4 times as much is the sonic quality of the audio out of these amps. That 75wpc is determined by driving all channels simultaneously, not to mention the ultra wide bandwidth design... Music, Movies, and Games just have such pristine warmth to them that I just couldn't get out of the Onkyos

Point is you get a lot of oomph for the buck on these amps, and while you may read some horror stories about QC from HK, their amps SOUND the best for this price point, and their customer service is easy to work with if you do need it.

Ive used Yamaha for over 10 years now and must say cannot fault anything, I think in the 1000$ price range you going to get something good no mater what you pick.

Its also a very personal decision on your ears, i have friends that have stupid money amps that run on valves and have to be warmed up for 30 mins to get optimal sound etc but i cant tell the difference so not worth it for me..

I personally own an Onkyo 605 ... thing is a beast (durable) ... I dunno if it has a sleep timer but I could use one. I leave that thing on like all the time and it never gets hot. Very simplistic ... I will upgrade my receiver after I do another update on my fronts.

I've also been lookling at the HK's but I don't see the model you are talking about. I love the plain look of them but the closest thing we have here, without special ordering, is the AVR3600 and it's 1400 bucks + tax. I'd like to spend 1000 taxes in.

Thanks for All the great info guys. I ended up going with the yamaha 6260. it does everything I need it to do with room to expand down the road if I want to. It's a 7.2 amp and all I have are speakers for a 5.1 system right now but it sounds great IMO. I just couldn't ignore the $200 savings with that BB sale.
