aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, it's back.
Minus the "3d spine".
Confirmed artwork too.
PROPERLY unimpressed with it I have to be honest.
Very dull, very boring.
No thanks! The Extended Bluray collection was £50 and is MILES nicer looking than these 3 will be. And takes up the same amount of space.

have to agree, the extended boxset is very nice and these jumbo's will be very plain with no inside artwork.

I have the American Extended box set and I am more than happy with how it looks which is much better than the crappy UK version.

If this had been 3D then I may have caved but not like this thanks.

Uh I have the Extended Boxset and it doesn't have inside artwork so I think it's meh compared to this. At least with this you get a cool steelbook and all the same discs as the extended boxset. This is much better imo.

im not sure about the difference between the uk and US release but i was referring to the map of middle earth that's inside, the extended boxset is great especially at the price you can get it for now,it feels so sturdy

If it wasn't a jumbo then it would be a no brainer but I had one once.....and I had to get rid of it as it was sooooo ugly sitting next all the others

You just need to have a bunch of them, then they will look fine :hilarious:

I don't mind jumbos myself; when the amount of discs requires a jumbo, I'll have a jumbo, thank you.

I actually went through the process and contacted Amazon and Warner Bros today to clarify the 3D situation hence the updated artwork today

Just waiting now for the email from their rep.

after seeing the prices of the above i must admit i'm quite tempted to order the trilogy, i was wondering if you have ever ordered from amazon US before, if so how long should you expect for these to arrive in the UK and what kind of packaging are they put in ?

So EIV are entering the Steelbook game but this is going to be Region B locked.

As of now amazon states it is all regions as do other sites as well

You are totally right lord of the rings future shop exclusive that came out in 2010 was a jumbo and was really cool!

I knew these weren't 3D, otherwise, the marketing people would've been fired.
ALSO, PJ mentions on the hobbit 1 commentary that the forced perspective thing done on these films, were impossible to do for The Hobbit, since 3D would kill the illusion, as you can't fool it. SO, I don't know if a post convertion is possible to begin with due to that fact, second, with so many effects done with models (which I do prefer to CGI, however), I don't know how a 3D could look like. I mean, like by the end of TTT, the river flooding Isengard really looks a bit WTF, how would that translate to 3D? Or the snow covering the fellowship on FOTR? Shots that really show it was 2000 tech and that they were 95 Million dollar movies each, and not nearly 200 as the hobbit ones. (And that was with MASSIVE tax incentives by NZ government, mind you).
I am getting this babe, since I figure Hobbit 2 and 3 will get the same treatment, so will kick some butt to have all 6 films on matching steelbooks (I mean the size).
