I can see what your saying, I bet he's making a fortune on these Group Buys. On my next order from Blufans, I am going to order loads
Seeing how you claim to be an entrepreneur. Perhaps you should run a GB or two. Maybe then you might not be so quick to whinge about people making a couple of dollars on each Steelbook. [emoji106]

I can tell you right now, there is no way that everyone on the GB thread that has replied is going to be helped.

If he has some other deal worked out with Nova, good for him. I can only tell you the details of my past experience and what they have allowed me to do.

For instance, Nova could say there are 2000 to the international customers, but actually reserve 2500. Retailers do that all the time. What they say publicly and do behind the scenes are two different things.

You see Andy what you have said here only confirms my belief that in GBs both here and elsewhere, that applicants should be restricted to 1 copy each - so most would have to make a choice between Lenti, Full, 1/4 slip etc, and there would be more to go around in real terms.
Whereas as it stands, if Nova for instance have a run of 1800, and you get 5% i.e 90, then they are likely to go (on average) to no more than 40 buyers.

What many steelbook collectors don't seem to get is that collecting is about making decisions/choices as much as anything - imagine if a car collector insisted on buying one of every trim and engine type of any given model? It's unheard of, as it is in most areas of collecting

I'd have to respectfully disagree with the last part of your post.

I think it may happen more than you think (in collecting that is, not with your car example specifically)

I have no problem with you disagreeing; and I do admit that my hands are not entirely clean in this regard as I have bought a very limited number of 'variants'; but I can't bring to mind any other area where so many collectors want every variant of a given item.

Mondo, Funko, Garbage Pail Kids... we've all done it and it is a part of most types of collecting. Admittedly I take it to the extreme sometimes but as long as I'm happy that I'm in control then I will probably continue to collect variants.

Being 'in control' is subjective of course! :p

When the demand of any item of a group buy that I'm hosting exceeds the supply, that is exactly what I have done in the past.

You get to pick one item from me, and that's it. If someone was ahead of you and got the last lenticular or whatever, you have
to pick choice #2.

Always, always, always have done this on any of my group buys.

What other people do, that's on them.

Nail and head! [emoji106]

(and also support an item that you are unable to inspect in person before paying & receiving it. who has to deal with returns and refunds on damaged or non-ocd items from Nova or BluFans? one of those unspoken things that group buy hosts have to do as well). just saying.

Just remember that for every completionist collector like yourself who gets one or more copies of every variation released of a particular release there will be 3 other collectors who will miss out on getting any version.

You seem to blame me for something.

If a retailer wants to release variants then that is their prerogative. If I want to buy one of each variant then that is my prerogative. The retailer does it to ensure they sell through the stock as they know it will attract people who will buy more than one copy of the same steelbook if it has different covers (whether they are on a full, lenti or qtr slip), and I oblige by buying more than one variant.

I'm not doing anything wrong. You just think I am for some reason.

If the retailer didn't release variants then I would only be interested in the one version.

I didn't say you are doing anything wrong. I am just stating a fact.

I've always said the same thing, as you likely know.

And as much as I've said, only recently (with the Nova John Wick) how I wished I'd got the lenticular as well - I've made no effort to get one, and won't.
On the other hand, should one come out elsewhere with different art, I would consider that, and consider that legitimate - as in buying the ES and Amazon Fr World War Z - white and black respectively.

Completely agree. Collecting isn't a socialist movement "thank God" some people win, some people loose. Those bitching about GB's comes over to me as nothing more than sour grapes if I'm honest. If people want all available variants they should get them.

but alas another fact remains that of some titles without variants smaller retailers take huge gambles on moving the MOQ. Min. Order Qty required by the manufacturers ... ie. Scanavo.

So the theory of a person buying 3 variants takes 2 editions away from 2 other people is only true and fact when an entire run sells out and there is still enough demand to sell those variants sold to someone else. etc.

Granted with Avengers everyone knew it would be popular from the jump ... but I just mention the above when you go to their site and still see Lone Survivor in stock. I'm sure they LOVE those people who bought 3 then so in those cases its not fact that it took some away as no business HOPES to sit on stock unless value appreciates.

And we're all forgetting ... that if its so popular that 4k isnt enough ... then just bust a "Play.com" and bump it to 5k and ANNOUNCE it as thats the right thing to do ... so collectors atleast know the print run.

I don't know if it's a case of sour grapes bud. But I do think many collectors on here like to create too many unwritten rules and restrictions on their way of collecting and expect others to have to agree or even copy what they do.

I have never told anyone else to collect all variants. And I never copied someone else who was doing it. In fact I was a bit surprised each time I saw someone else collecting every variant of certain titles. Interestingly no-one has ever said anything about me owning all the kimchi Amelie variants (including the tripack), or all the Eternal Sunshines, or the 4 x Begin Again variants. But when it comes to a title other people have more interest in then my choice is openly frowned upon all of a sudden.

We've got to appreciate that there are a lot of us on here and that we are inevitably going to collect in different ways. That is healthy. Be nice if everyone could respect that a bit more rather than trying to pigeonhole everything all the time.

Ok fair enough. I accept your point about the flip side. But that doesn't mean that my point is totally without merit either.
Ninja Strong!

Hey if you guys want to get all available version then be my guest. It's your money! Why not do it by ordering directly instead of jumping the que by reserving copies through the GB and gaining an unfair advantage.

Life's about gaining the advantage [emoji2]

I can't always be online, and have missed several releases because there hasn't been GB's and they went live at unsuitable times. Hence I will always join GB's for steels I really want. If that limits direct sales I won't be loosing sleep. [emoji6]
