Website is all over the place at the moment, not up, up , up but completely blank pages, now down again, I really hope they sort the site by Thursday for The Avengers re-sale.

Personally I think they should just randomly put them up for sale, without any announcement at all, I think that would be fun.

Same here the website is a disaster...:dead: All over the place...:squint:
I know they stated they can't afford to upgrade their servers but maybe they need to talk to Kimchi and see what Tony did to make his site run so much smoother...:naughty: Or the 2 man awesome show that is Plain Archive. If they can do it on the small amount of money they must have coming in I don't see why Nova can't do the same. Seems like a pretty thin excuse to me to be honest....:meh::rolleyes:

Some third party web stores, including dedicated servers for checkout, start at $50 a month for their level of volume, and range potentially to $100 a month.

You can make your own conclusions on whether they're making more than $50 in profit on these deals or not. ;)

I can personally report the totally non-existent customer service.
No response to my 3 messages for 10 days.
A shame.
They'd better deal with true customers rather than going on updating facebook posts...

Before the crash of last week, I had no problem to contact the customer service, I had a response in less than 24h with email, maybe because I'm a "new customer" at Nova. Since the crash, no more response to my email!

Kimchi might have better servers, but you don't have jack ##+t if your code ain't right. Something is wrong with the Nova cms. It shouldn't behave like it does. So my guess, an amateur coding mistake, cause and effect.

PlainArchive are on a whole different level. It's not magento based, but an all-in-one-cms-system which is called Shopify.

Shopify is easy to use, hassle free, responsive out of the box and supports all kinds of payment checkouts. Why? Cause it all comes in one package where plain archive pay a monthly fee for. As a customer of shopify, you don't have to worry about updates or whatsoever.

Shopify does this all and the biggest bonus is that they have well known servers which can stand high amounts of traffic. The downside is, within a couple of years, you payed your ass off to commission through sales and the monthly fee. Whereas if you choose for magento and the additional specialist to update some things for you. You are way cheaper off. Way cheaper. But then again, comfort, ease and the security of just dealing with one business associate is a luxury people also want.

Just like Apple, you pay for the experience, but you can get the same specs for half as cheap or even cheaper.

Just received this morning 2 responses email from Nova, so they apologized ..... nothing more :)
They told me to try again on April 30th, they had thousand connections ... but I told them it will be the same this week !

Hi,
I've not ordered directly from Nova before and I have caved in and decided to purchase Begin Again.
I could do with a little advice on the best shipping to choose and what to put to avoid getting hammered by the good old UK customs?
Much appreciated if anyone can share some advice.

Ps. I did go through God knows how many pages looking for the answer before I gave up:)

For the price per month Shopify isn't that expensive for the peace of mind and smooth transactions it gives you. $80p/m is less than 2 marvel steelbook sales. I'd much prefer it if they moved to this.

It's not just 80 dollars p/m. There are transaction fees.

Take in account:
If nova sells 3000 steels at $37 dollars a steel, this is the sum.

3000 x $37= $111.000 dollars (as in thousands)
Transaction fee (2.5%)= 111.000/100 x 2.5%= $ 2775 dollars to be paid additionally.

If you have 15 releases in a year which sell out, you'll be paying 2775*15= $ 41.625,00 on commission. I don't know about you, but i'd rather pay an additional programmer some money from time to time than give away 41 thousand dollars.

I have always used K-Packet and chose NO for original invoice with $19.00 as the value.

I have never been hit with customs in the UK using the method above and have ordered numerous times.

I hope this helps

When checking out, you'll be given the option of selecting gift or merchandise and will also be able to determine the value to be declared. NM's default setting is Merchandise Value (USD) $20. This is below the £15 threshold at which UK Import VAT becomes liable, so I always use their default setting. Never choose the gift option as doing so is likely to attract the attention of Customs. Bear in mind that exchange rates fluctuate, so you need to ensure that the value $20 is never greater than £15, according to the official HMRC monthly exchange rate.

I also find it best to select the K-Packet option. It's cheaper than EMS and although it takes a few days longer to arrive, it's less likely to attract the attention of Customs than EMS. Bear in mind also that if you are unlucky enough to fall foul of UK Customs, with Royal Mail (K-Packet) their handling charge is £8, whereas with Parcel Force (EMS) it rises to £13.50.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

@tokaman Wasn't intending to duplicate what you wrote above but you obviously got your post in whilst I was still writing mine.

Edit: Don't you just love it when someone asks for advice and you go to the trouble of providing it, only to find that that person can't even be bothered to acknowledge it.

Wow - Fair enough!

That's pretty crazy.

That's the cost of doing business - Paypal gets around 4% in fees on international transactions, that still hits the retailers bottom line, even if they are running a "free" shop like Magento. You (the retailer) still have to pay for that cost, when processing with paypal.

Most people here pay with paypal...so, where are the savings again, by running Magento? LOL

(and the base rate that a retailer pays for ONLINE credit card transactions is 2.0 - 2.5% per transaction, no matter what platform they are using).

I know, I have experience with webshops ;-)

And I don't mean your small magento webshops with turnovers of a couple of hundred dollars per month.

But aside of that, this is simply what shopify gets, I haven't even included fees from cc and/or PayPal to the equation.
