Good news, @Sigill. I tested both theatrical and extended discs from my Digipack edition with my OPPO player set to Region B and to Region C. They are all playable. So the discs are not region-locked to A.

So I rewatched this movie a second time using the new Korean discs. As I had expected, CJ gave it the highest bitrate possible, hitting 39 and 40 Mbps, and averaging, I believe, 37 Mbps same as the Japan discs. This in comparison to 26 Mbps of the UK discs.

The result is immediately noticeable. The picture looks mouth-watering delicious. With the movie's high production value and it being very new, the images look so organic and almost real.

It's CJ E&M release. PA only worked on designs with Propaganda. I guess they place stickers only on their exclusives.

Official Plain Selective series are PA’s own releases. For example, ‘Terminator: Genysis’ and ‘Beauty Inside’. But ‘The Handmaiden’ and ‘Veteran’ are not there own releases. They are CJ E&M release and PA is just a reseller.

Hey @Four Foot One. Definitely watch the theatrical version first. Even director Park himself doesn't recommend watching the extended version first.

I made the mistake of watching the extended version first and regretted it. The pacing was bad and the tone was uneven. When I watched the theatrical version , it was a lot better.

I wonder if anyone also notices this:

At the 16:00 to 16:55 min mark theatrical version (12:05 to 13:00 extended version), in the scene in the mistress room just after Soo-Kee tried reading her letter of recommendation, there is a background fluttering sound. It is very prominent around the mid-point and then slowly disappears over the next 2 minutes. I wonder what could the noise be caused by.

I checked the UK discs and the noise was there too (17:05 to 18:00 in UK theatrical cut).
