Re-ordered, with a hint of caution; Yes, I love the artwork, but with a dull finish this could come out as bad as The Imitation Game steelbook..

Also; £20.99 is a bit steep, but will decide nearer the time whether to stick or twist...

The finish on the Imitation Game was horrible... completely agree with you mate and that was one of my blind buys...

I can not believe they changed it to the artwork we were all raving on about ... THAT IS HOW A COMPETITION SHOULD BE RUN IN THE FIRST PLACE. LET THE CUSTOMERS/PUBLIC DECIDE THE WINNER BY VOTE. NOT THE STUPID STUDIO.

Nightcrawler - a vanity project for Damien Chazelle. I had no interest in the characters and some of the plot development was laughable.

InAFalsetto. I think letting the public decide artwork is a bad idea. Studios aren't stupid; but they do get complacent sometimes...

Actually I am sure the Studio forced to change the artwork so that they can reuse it in other territories

@psychoscot some people seem to complain about the finish of previous zavvi releases and seem to wonder what type of finish Whiplash will have, but what I got from zavvi was nice, I don't buy much from them so I don't have too much references, but should I worry about the finish of the steel ? it seems that Zavvi doesn't give detail on the finish of their steels before we have it in hands ??? any advice ?

from what I read it was a Kimchi exclusive, I don't think they would use the now WWA artwork, I think they will do a wea if I am not mistaken...I hope I am not ..can Choi confirm this ? been a long time I haven't seen any post from him on the forum come to think of it

Honestly it is pot luck with Zavvi, and very much depends on the studio. Many of their own exclusives are superb though like the Disney releases, Clerks V For Vendetta etc all of which were premium quality with great gloss finishes. When it comes to matte it can be hit an miss. Sometimes they are very poor other times then have a smooth finish.

so basically with this release it is a hit or miss as you say, but knowing the popularity and what happened all the cancelation and all the reorders after the artwork change, wouldn't Zavvi make sure that it is a very well done steel ?

Zavvi really don't care, they are a large company rather than a specialist. The sell em and people buy them. They might make more of an effort if all of a sudden sales dropped rapidly but since many on here buy whatever they pump out they really won't care about the finish. Plus unlike Asian specialists Zavvi get little say in what they are given most of the time. I still buy from them but my preorders are basically down to just this and Cinderella now and that's not even for me lol. Most of the times these days I'd rather wait and see what other countries are going to do. This being both an art house style film and Oscar winner I can see a possible relase either through Plain Archives or Nova in the near future.
