Yeah, I'd call it a gothic romance myself. I have the limited edition book too & if I recall there's a brief piece by del Toro before the book where he says that it was written as a gothic love story.

I'm actually not looking on purpose so I can be bedazzled for when I get mine and Open it, just want to keep the suspense no peeking under the Christmas tree !!!
