Sad to hear of the store closures, and a bit concerned about the online store disappearing. I did a bit of digging regarding the online store and HMV companies, and there are quite a few listed. Including :
HMV GROUP PENSION TRUSTEES LIMITED
PURE HMV LOYALTY LIMITED
HMV ECOMMERCE LIMITED
HMV ONLINE LIMITED
HMV RETAIL LIMITED
Doing a company financial check on these companies show on the most part dire figures, with massive losses and liabilities, which year on year have almost doubled with the losses (upto 2017) with one notable exception, HMV ECOMMERCE LIMITED, this is the one I believe directly administers the online shop, I don't believe HMV ONLINE LIMITED does, it may handle the HMV.COM and online social media presence and so on, the figures for HMV ONLINE LIMITED are awful with over £2 million in losses/liabilities .
In all my correspondence from the Online store including emails, addresses, payments and refunds they all are referred to in name as HMV ECOMMERCE LIMITED.
HMV ECOMMERCE LIMITED is an entirely different beast, it shows a very healthy financial status according to the 2017 figures it has £335.000 in cash, a NET worth of £630.000, Assets of £2.176.000 and liabilities of £1.743.000. The figures are almost double of the previous 3 years, year on year, so a healthy sounding balance sheet.
So I have to wonder, regarding the online shop, I simply can't believe it will not come back, it's clearly such a money spinner, it would be funny if Sunrise rejected it or if it is still negotiating, but imagine if Zavvi or Amazon put in bids and won ?, that would be all kinds of crazy, you can't have HMV exclusive items on sale in HMV shops and the online shop run by say, zavvi selling them, just wouldn't make any sense.
I'd be worried if Sunrise decide to close the online shop and stick to bricks and mortar for the UK market as well, it is admirable thinking, but I fear completely the wrong direction to go for the UK.
Fingers crossed the online site comes back online soon !
