It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

I'm sorry but these are just horrible.

If it's a kids film you're buying, then it just looks like a kids lunch box...

I really hope this isn't something Scanavo will try and push as a result of pressure from retailers to come up with a more 'damage friendly' alternative to Steelbooks.

I'm sure retailers would welcome this, as returns from damaged Steelbooks must leave them so much out of pocket?

If the would have made the frame/bezel smaller or at least thinner this might have worked.
I use the word "might" very loosely though.

It looks like something you might wrap your movies in to allow your kids to throw them about. No thanks!

Haha, the best part is the '4' in the word frame...as if the product itself wasn't bad enough already :hilarious:.

Do we really want yet another medium to collect? We already have SteelBooks, DigiBooks, and various CE's...

If these were made of steel like SteelBooks, albeit with a thinner profile, then I would be all in. However, these look cheap and flimsy just like those skinny Amaray cases you sometimes get as part of trilogy box sets.

I'm also concerned about that opening "lip", which seems like it may make storing these side-by-side quite difficult.

Where does the disc go? I see no viable way of the packaging holding the disc. Or do they ship in a cardboard sleeve?

If this were the new medium for PS4 or Xbox One games, then I would be more willing to embrace it (same if it were steel), but to me it just feels like a cheap alternative to Amaray cases. Might take off in Japan where space is a premium, but I can't see it being popular in the US or UK.

I think an ordinary keep case looks very valuable compared to this one. And without a the title on the spine it's not very useful for collectors. Just think of a collection with dozens or hundreds of them in a shelf and every case looks the same. EEK!

Why didn't Scanavo ask the collectors for their opinion and check if there is a market for something like that before releasing it? :emb:
